Game Thread | 2021-2022 Season | Game #12 | Wizards @ Cavs | Nov. 10, 2021

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Cavs were also outrebounded by nine. Dean Wade is a terrible rebounder. JA gets criticized for not boarding against more physical guys like Harrell, but he at least got ten. Wade got 2 in 28 minutes. Even when Love isn't doing well on offense, he always boards. Wade never does.
Mobley and Allen have covering up Wade's lack of rebounding since Lauri been out. He's awful at it

Yeah I find it weird when people say Wade and Love are similar players. They're totally different. Wade has some better natural defensive instincts, but he can't board to save his life.

From Washington Post game story.

Cleveland is one of the top teams in the league at keeping opponents off the free throw line, entering Wednesday’s game allowing foes an average of 15.5 free throw attempts per game. But largely thanks to Harrell, the Wizards stepped to the line 17 times and hit all 17 of their shots. Harrell had eight attempts.
Success at the charity stripe is part of what kept Washington competitive for much of the night despite its poor shooting. It was one of many things the Wizards did well Wednesday — they also dominated on the boards, outrebounding Cleveland, 49-40 — in another sign that their energy, not their play, was the problem for much of the game.

The Wizards were just better at hitting 3's down the stretch. Kuzma knocked down two while Rubio missed a wide open one and Garland missed his with 3 seconds left.

Kuzma was 4-for-4 on three-points shots in the 4th quarter. That normally doesn't happen. He came in hitting 34.9% from deep.

I thought the Cavs should have got a better shot with 11.4 seconds to work with, down by 1 point, and in the bonus. The Wizards couldn't foul. But all the Cavs did was hand it to Garland and have him shoot a long 3. They had plenty of time to attack the rim.

They key was Okoro getting undercut by Harrell on his defensive rebound with 1:26 to go and the Cavs up by five. If Okoro comes down with that rebound the Cavs would have won. Just a very unusual play where a guy grabs a rebound with both hands, comes down on an opponent, takes a hard fall and loses the ball. You never see that.

Harrell and Kuzma won this game for them. That and getting 12 offensive rebounds to six for the Cavs. The Wizards took eight more shots and won by 3.

Wade and Okoro both started and combined for 5 points in 56 minutes. Wow. It's tough to win when two starters combine for 5 points.

The six missed free throws killed us but how often does a team go 17-for-17? Still, if you shoot 71% on free throws while giving up 12 offensive boards you deserve to lose.

Once the Wizards get Bryant, Hachimura, and Bertans back they will be scary good. They beat us tonight without two starters, a key reserve, and with Beal shooting 4-for-19. KCP was 1-for-8.

As I said in the game preview, Montrezl Harrell always plays great against Cleveland. Tonight he had 24 points in 26 minutes along with 11 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. The guy is a beast and he always dominates the Cavs despite being 6'7" and unable to score from more than 3 feet away from the rim.

Not just the scoring we miss from Sexton but the gravity also. I just didn't see the easy assists from Garland and Rubio tonight because there just is so little gravity out on the court to draw the defense so they can make the counter moves to get guys easy buckets. Pace seems to go way down too. Sexton might be the only guy that truly likes to sprint in transition.
Right it was even worse than I thought it would be. They are going to need some time to make adjustments and the coach is probably already begging Altman for another on ball creator & bucket getter
Beal was terrible and it was not just our defense, they were giving him open looks in the 4th he was so bad smh

That's because he actually boxes his man out rather than running to the glass.
