Game Thread | 2021-2022 Season | Game #12 | Wizards @ Cavs | Nov. 10, 2021

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Once the Wizards get Bryant, Hachimura, and Bertans back they will be scary good. They beat us tonight without two starters, a key reserve, and with Beal shooting 4-for-19. KCP was 1-for-8.

Didn't they just barely beat a team also without two starters and a key reserve tonight? With our two replacement starters combining for only 5 total points, as you noted? And with 4/4 3pt shooting in the 4th from an average outside shooter, a dominant performance from their hustle guy off the bench, and with us doing everything we could do to give away a game we absolutely had in the bag down the stretch?

I don't think the wizards are all that good. I'm not sure I believe we're all that good either. But we have possibly the most promising young prospect in the league right now, so I'm okay with that.

Not a bad loss at all. We're playing a 7-3 team and it came down to having the ball trailing by one point with 11 seconds left. This game was dead even and came down to one shot.

After the game Bickerstaff was all about how we fouled Beal intentionally but the refs didn't call it and about how the Cavs need to learn not to give up an uncontested three-pointer in that situation. Better to let them get an easy layup, tie the game, and have 11 seconds to get the winning basket or failing that, go to overtime.

The upside is Evan Mobley's offensive development. Fedor had this:

Prior to Wednesday night, his highest usage rate was just 20.5. In the first few weeks, he ranks sixth on the team in that category despite leading in minutes played. He’s cracked the 20-percent mark just four times in 12 games. Against Washington, that number ballooned to a whopping 38 percent, the highest on the team.

In five November games he's hitting 52.9% from the field, 80% from the foul line, averaging 17.8 ppg and 8.4 rebounds. He's made 3 of his last 7 three-point attempts. He leads the league in contested shots.

He's growing in confidence game by game.

I couldn’t sleep last night. I’m totally shredded. I kept replaying those wide-open shots by Kuzma in my head.

Kuzma blamed the fans for the loss, actually:

“It was the fans’ fault they lost, really,” Kuzma said. “There was a sign that said, ‘LeBron won Kuzma his ring,’ and they were just talking too much. Well, I told those guys, ‘Without LeBron, Cleveland wouldn’t be crap.’”

Well cost me 260 last night... and right before Kuzma hit that three, I looked at my wife and said just don't let Kuzma shoot a three. Then he hits a wide open 3.

Sorry man...I learned my lesson years ago about betting NBA games. The refs just play too big a part in the final score. I lost so much money on late baskets which were often inconsequential points except to those who had money on the game.

That's why I typically play the action or over and unders. I don't fuck with point spreads.

Mobley left Kuzma to help out under the basket. Usually that’s the correct decision but not in this situation. Props to JB for emphasizing Mobley’s offensive development and for not mentioning who left Kuzma open. We’re incredibly lucky to have him and his help defense was well intentioned.

Also didn’t help Okoro was out at the death. His absence was keenly felt. I know he’s an offensive liability but his D combined with Frobley is excellent.

Really wanted that win but I can’t be mad at our team. They play hard and are improving but we’re still inexperienced.

When's Lauri coming back?
Gotta be soon, but Love should be back even before Lauri, assuming he hasn’t completely gotten out of shape in the last week or so.

It is way too early in the season to worry about playoffs (least of all home court advantage).
That’s what we said when The Dinwidemon was butt-slamming us in 2018! Every game matters! We’re contenders! We can’t afford to throw games down the toilet!

Baby Giraffe is here to reverse our fortunes like Abdul-Jabbar did for the Bucks! Like Bird did for the Celtics! If we create the conditions for Baby Giraffe’s success, we are seeing +30 victories, this year!
