Game Thread | 2021-2022 Season | Game #17 | Warriors @ Cavs | Nov. 18, 2021

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
That was fun - for three quarters. I got the feeling that after the third quarter the Cavs said, "Wow, we're up by 13, we could win this" and they all tightened up. Meanwhile the Warriors said, "OK, boys, time to get serious".

The Cavs did not score in the first 6:40 of the 4th quarter. They had open 3's and bricked them all. You could tell they were tight with a lead on Golden State in the 4th quarter. Curry, OTOH, thrives in those situations. He knocked down his first three 3's and when Okoro tried to deny him the ball Curry back-doored him for easy layups. Curry was relaxed and having fun knocking down shot after shot while the Cavs were tight and just stood around waiting for Garland or Rubio to make something happen.

Curry outscored the Cavs 20-8 in the 4th. After the Cavs only scored 9 points in the first quarter against the Celtics I figured that would be their worst quarter of the year, by far. But they only got 8 in the 4th tonight. Massive choke by everybody. With a huge win staring them in the face they wilted.

The good news is that Kevin Love looked as good as I've seen him since he scored 30 on Boston last spring. He had a line of 17/7/6 in 22 minutes. I'll take that from him every night. Dean Wade finally came around with a similar line of 17/9/5 and his usual good defense. Wade played 40 minutes with no fouls and just one turnover. I really liked what I saw from Love and Wade.

Garland, OTOH, turned the ball over 7 times against 5 assists. He scored 25 but it took 22 shots. He made a lot of bad decisions that resulted in turnovers or missed shots. He still dribbles into an opponents' team meeting too often and also launches too many long step-back threes that have no chance. To be fair, when he gets into the paint he doesn't have a big man to lob it to until Allen and Mobley get back.

Rubio is looking a little tired to me. He was 4-for-15 tonight and blew an uncontested layup with the score tied in the 4th. The three days off will help a lot.

Ed Davis had a great first half with 7 points and 13 boards, but in the second half it was 0 points and 1 rebound.

Yes, Windler has not scored in the last two games covering 33 minutes and has attempted just one shot. Tonight he had more turnovers than points, rebounds, and assists combined. He looked scared to death to be on the same floor with Curry and Green. As soon as he got the ball he gave it up as soon as possible. He wants nothing to do with that round, leather thing. He looks like a college player from a Division II school who somehow ended up in a pickup game with NBA guys.

Well, the grossly undermanned Cavaliers made them earn it. No taking the fourth quarter off to yuk it up on the bench for Curry and Green. Little victories, I guess.

I was talking about the time we weren't injured obviously. He still had shitty rotation.

I have no idea why you are stanning Okoro so much. He looks like a bust. He gets ample if chances and a super long leash. He was the 5th pick.

Windler is a shooter that barely plays who's on a very short leash. Has no confidence. A shooter with no confidence on a very short leash that has nothing being run for him. What do you expect. And still, he impacts the game more. Even when you don't see it.
He impacted the game tonight all right - three turnovers.

Okoro is in their playing aggressively and rebounding inside. Last year he hardly rebounded at all. He did score ten points tonight.

Windler got 18 minutes tonight and did nothing. Got 13 last night - did nothing.

Okoro is not ready for the role he’s been asked to play but he gives his best. He‘s got a long way to go but the undermanned team has to play him more than I’d like to see. Okoro might not stay on this team long term. I’m a Mobley, Allen and Garland Stan; not sure about Sexton and Okoro; I’d like Rubio to stay to help our team’s development; rest of the team I don’t care that much.

Windler currently is utterly useless. I watch every game and have all but one on DVR. The guy is completely lost out there. I sincerely think he should go to the Charge pronto as playing in the NBA is doing nothing for him.

Wade on the other hand has made solid contributions and will be employed in the NBA at least as an emergency bench guy.

Okoros bpm is -5 with zero improvement from last season.

Windlers +1.2 with no games under his belt. Basically rookie season.

Windlers currently at basement level of form and usage. He impacts the game even when he seemingly does nothing according to you.

You are reading basic individual stats and watching the game in isolation through the wrong lense.

I hated the Harris trade. And I'm not giving up on Windler because the coach can't understand how to use him or want to use him.

Do you remember Harris being strictly a corner shooter on the Cavs? He is running through endless screens now hoisting 10 a game. He had a tiny little leash on the Cavs and shooters need no leash at all.

Cedi has been playing very well this month, he's shooting 41% on 3's. If he had been able to take Windler's 18 minutes tonight things might have turned out different.

If Curry had to sit out tonight because of that hip contusion the Cavs would have won by 20 or more. Curry had 40 points, 6 assists, a couple of steals; just between the points and assists he was involved in at least 52 of their 104 points. He HAS to be the MVP. Nobody else on that team impressed me in the least except for Green's passing (14 assists!). But he only had 4 points and 2 rebounds.

It’s not just stats. Okoro is moving off the ball unlike last year when he was stationary in the corner. He’s getting position on offensive rebounds and he did get four buckets and 10 points. He absolutely should not be playing more than 18-20 mpg but he’s forced to play out of role for now and most of last year. Point is that he is involved in the game and makes some contributions along with mistakes (zero turnovers tonight though).

As far as Windler impacting the game - what did he do tonight? He didn’t shoot, rebound, pass, steal or block. Zero points. Three turnovers. What intangibles did he provide? Did he help on D to stop a bucket? Did he defend a fast break? He barely touched the ball and it’s clear his teammates don’t trust him with it. Three turnovers and one missed shot for a guy supposed to score off the bench - that’s just pathetic.

ive actually made it a point to watch Windler the past two games. I thought maybe I was being unfair and too harsh. After watching him my conclusion is that he is not fit for minutes in the NBA right now. Send him to the Charge. You’re entitled to your opinion; I’m entitled to mine.

I know we all dislike Steph but he is the best shooter ever and his influence on the game can’t be denied. I dislike him because of the Warriors Durant cheat code and his bitch face but I respect his game very much because to do otherwise would be straight player hating. Guy is a great player.

Trash ass crowd cheering the Warriors louder than the home team and then giving a faint MVP chant to Steph pissed me off as much as anything tonight. Our crowd used to be so much better, back around LeBron’s first stint here. Crazy to imagine our arch rival from 4 straight Finals matchups, just a few years removed, getting cheered on in our own building.

Of course.

I'm just not arguing the stats. They are objective.

And yes, he hasn't been good the last couple of games, but he isn't really doing anything? Don't you think it's a common theme for some role players? Looking scared. Looking like they don't know their role?

He isn't a SG, he isn't a SF. So does anyone know what he is?

What's crazy,I wanted him last year. I was wrong about that. I have a feeling it was the organization that suggested that Collin's minutes should be cut while suggesting to play Okoro at the SG position.

I know the organization wanted to bench Collin last season so Okoro can be the starter last season. I don't understand, how anyone can justify trading or benching Collin for a player that teams doesnt respect at all.

While,I think Okoro isnt a SG,JB doesnt put Okoro in the right position offensively. Okoro does well when he's cutting to the basket but JB doesnt draw plays like that for him. He got Okoro camping at the three point line. Itvmakes no sense because he's not a three point threat at all...

So they were doing that? All of them should have been yeeted.

There is no way you will get me to say anything positive about Captain Binky, I don't care what the situation is.

Don't understand why he passes on going downhill like when Wade basically screened for him and he did nothing with it.

He not a smart player and not a fluid athlete. So many times he get's a pass, starts attacking but one dribble into his attack he whips the ball over to someone else. Something is going on in his head, maybe it's time for a mental break. Sending him to the DLeague would probably help him a lot.

If the Cavs lose to the Nets or the Suns next week, I'll be considerably less mad, and more about the details. But this game still pisses me off. @Sir'Dom Pointer pointed it out in the season thread. Bray-mond's blatant cheating. The moving screens. The Tatum-esque push offs. Uncalled, of course.

They have no need to do that, especially against an undermanned team in the other conference in what otherwise is nothing but a stat padding season game.

Cavs need a certified goon on their squad for this BS. One good "Jokic" foul ends this crap.

Give me the corpse of Steven Adams or find someone similar. We need bruisers and mean screen setters to free our shooters. This soft screening and weak ball slipping rebounding is a real issue. Cavs will improve once they start running proper actions with proper screens and limit the opposition to mostly 1 possession.
