Game Thread | 2021-2022 Season | Game #18 | Nets @ Cavs | Nov. 22, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'll enjoy and observe the progression throughout the season, especial once Mobley is back(though that is not an excuse or qualifier)

Then in the offseason, yes, decisions have to be made.

Extend? If so, how much? Trade? Don't extend and let him play year 4 and then hit RFA, giving us a two year window to evaluate him and Mobley together? Lots of options but I'm not in a rush to reach a conclusion in November/December

Nah that's the cop out.

IF you think you have a budding star here, there must be some things you're looking to see from him, individually. Forget Mobley. If Garland is a core piece, then he should be able to show that w/o Mobley on the court.

I literally said: "ESPECIALLY with Mobley", which is not exclusive and is in ADDITION to the need to see Garland's individual performance, regardless of who else is in the lineup. Then to further underscore that, I added in parentheses: though that is not an excuse or qualifier.

But yes, it's not weird of me to be MOST excited of all to see the two players together.

Darius has played 129 games in his career. That's a little over a season and a half. We have had blatant tanking, injuries (many times over), no mentor (until now), a crazy schedule, minimal offseasons (until this year), Covid & a partridge in a early tree. Yet he's averaging solid numbers on a team that was not supposed to be good.

Hes shown enough to say he's going to be a very good piece down the line. He compliments Evan well and is always looking to get guys involved. Off the court he has already been attached at the hip with our franchise player.

Before anyone judges, let's keep in mind that Chris Paul's career averaged are 18 & 9. Darius will top 20ppg at the pace we will be playing at long term and hopefully have guys to finish his passes....which he lacked for awhile. I imagine a 20 & 7 guy who is probably the 3rd option. Allen a 15 & 10 guy as a 4th option. 2nd option is the SG/SF we need to draft. Add in Collin off the bench & the rest of our guys and it's going to be a wrap. Any guy above & Evan can hit you for 25 a night.

Cavs are coming. Don't worry.

Garland has already achieved enough to justify Koby's dice roll drafting him.. I was very skeptical, but the performance is there. His effort on defense has also improved significantly since he went to work on his body in the off season..

It is pretty much conventional wisdom that Garland is a more valuable asset than Sexton, even before the injury. This is because he is the kind of guard that makes other players better, and he is early in his career.

He will reduce those turnovers, and he will get deadlier from 3. Pretty much all guards do as they get more experienced..

I don't recall anyone flat trading a point guard to get a wing.., so I don't think that is going to happen..

I have been scouting a bit on this year's forwards.. there are a lot of 6'7, 6'8 220-240 guys with 36+ 3pt % .. So I think we nab one of those in the middle of the draft.. I would be willing to give up Sexton to move up in the draft, and perhaps Mark, although I like his value.. obviously, Osman, Stevens, Valentine are all on the table. I could see us taking wings with a mid first, and a high second in the draft, then picking up a decent Vet wing that has a few miles on him after this season..Then trying to sign a free agent wing in 2023..

Less obvious is Windler. I would be willing to trade him, but I don't think he has any value at the moment.. He would need to score 10 and rebound 5 on 20 minutes for anyone to sniff at him..

Okoro is a puzzle for me.. he had a better game against the nets, but he needs to improve a lot to justify a spot at the 2.. I am not anxious to trade him ( or bust him to Gleague like some of the board) I feel like it's selling low.

I would like to see Guy take a spin on the team. He looks like a Rubio energy level, but more reckless..

In retrospect, they should have just drafted Keldon Johnson. He was the wing we needed. Wouldn’t have thought that BOTH Windler and KPJ would end up amounting to nothing. *sigh*

Reasons they lost:

Missed 30 shots from the 3-point line and lost by 5 points.

Garland 1-for-10 after getting knocked out of the game with an elbow to the head. That was the turning point.

Durant scoring 8 points in the last four minutes.

The refs giving Durant and Harden all the calls, including two phantom calls on Wade.

I was glad to see Bickerstaff talking about the Cavs getting no respect from the officials. I hope they send some footage to the league office.

On the positive side, Okoro hit three 3's and finished 3-for-7 from deep. It's only one game but he looked confident and fundamentally solid. He ended up with 15 points. Unfortunately, he missed a wide open one in the last two minutes and so did Rubio.

He's also a lot younger. Reckless Rubio happened in his first 2-3 years which caught him two potentially career ending injuries.

Do people think that there's a bunch of PGs in the NBA putting up Garland's numbers? There aren't. The Cavs should be looking to hold onto anyone who is better than average at their position and who have positive net impact overall because this roster isn't exactly overflowing with them.

Hopefully a game for Okoro to build off of.

About respect :

Allen- " Honestly, I think with how we've been playing , how we've been
competing against all these teams even though we're down a number of
people , we're still in every game , even when a lot of us were sick and down
we're still out there fighting to win. And I think that gains respect from
everybody . You're not just going to get respect overnight , you're gonna
have to build into it . And that's what we're doing."
