Game Thread | 2021-2022 Season | Game #43 | Cavs @ Spurs | Jan. 14, 2022 | 8:30 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'd like to get a legit SG with decent secondary playmaking skills (this season or the offseason) and let Okoro and Stevens continue to do their developing at SF instead of at SG

Okoro is 1000% a guard defensively. 1s and 2s. Maybe he can learn to guard bigger guys better like Marcus Smart did but he’s a guard defensively.

Can we talk about how much Kevin Love sucked tonight?

Not his best work to say the least. But overall still an integral part of the roster for now. Eventually we will need a replacement big man catch and shoot guy.

Lauri will do some of it for sure as Mobley gets more comfy at C.

And I heard Isaiah Mobley was a hell of a shooter. 6’10 and can rebound and defend too. And he has pretty good chemistry with a certain young guy on the roster.

On top of all the goings on tonight, it feels good to finally win one of these games.

Feels like every back and forth close game they've been in this season they've lost late. Team blows opponents out so much, its nice to see them grind out a game where they have to get consecutive stops and have to execute plays down the stretch to put a game away.

Wasn't the prettiest thing, but got the job done. These guys, coach included, are still babies in the NBA experience. Need all the growing opportunities they can get, tonight was one.

Okoro was coming off an injury and not even suppose to be back yet...

but the Spurs probably would have gone into the 4th up 8-10 points if not for Okoros offensive outburst late in the 3rd qtr. It's not much, but he continues to show just enough to make it clear to me he should not be given up on. The only time this year when he was fully heathy with his legs under him he started really looking like he was putting things together.

Patience is the key with Okoro. The payoff may be 2-3 years off but we have time.

Guys who are thrilled with Stevens putting together three good games at the age of 24 are willing to throw Okoro in the scrap heap at age 20.

I’m giving my player off the game to Goodwin…

7pts 5ast

Simply don’t win the game without that unexpected contribution

Thoughts on Windler's role in this win, Pip?

He’s definitely the right guy for the emergency PG role. He’s hit a couple threes lately and his speed is actually pretty nice for a hardship player.

Lamar Stevens kept vacillating tonight somewhere between Dr. J and Carl Herrera
You stumped me with Carl Herrera; had to do a Google search to be reminded of that stellar Venezuelan

Okoro is also clearly a superior defender. Especially against point guards. ESPECIALLY. And he knows how to properly funnel them into the back line help. Steven’s will put himself on an island by just not forcing guys the right way. Okoros a smarter player than Steven’s defensively.

I was noticing when he was out that our bigs just didn't look as good defensively, and that was exactly why. He's a really smart team defender as well as being good on-ball.

Well ya know, Keys, I really enjoyed how he kept his mask on the entire time throughout the night as he continues to amaze by doing nothing….

I’d drop him off in Mexico while we’re down there….

I thought Windler did a great job tonight.

His 15 claps and 20 cheers were crucial to us sealing the win.

3 of our next 6 games are against:

Brooklyn
Chicago
Milwaukee

It would be great if we could make up some ground in the standings. And also prove we can beat the top teams.

Well I think Lavine got injured tonight and Boston I’m just not a believer in…

I think 2 outta 3 are winnable
