Game Thread | 2021-2022 Season | Game #43 | Cavs @ Spurs | Jan. 14, 2022 | 8:30 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
On top of all the goings on tonight, it feels good to finally win one of these games.

Feels like every back and forth close game they've been in this season they've lost late. Team blows opponents out so much, its nice to see them grind out a game where they have to get consecutive stops and have to execute plays down the stretch to put a game away.

Wasn't the prettiest thing, but got the job done. These guys, coach included, are still babies in the NBA experience. Need all the growing opportunities they can get, tonight was one.
The 4th quarter had been by far the worst for the Cavs this year but tonight was a different story as they outscored the Spurs by 7 in the 4th to win by 5. Markkanen's dunk broke the ice. This was like watching a sumo match that goes on for five minutes. You felt like whoever gets the next bucket will win and Marky stepped up.

The point guards were amazing; Murray with a line of 30/14/8 and Garland responded with 32/4/8. Darius had ONE turnover in 37 minutes. As a team the Cavs only had 9 and that was huge in a close win. Garland and Murray should be facing off in more than one All-Star game in the future.

This game should not have been that close, but for the Cavs poor free throw shooting. They were 14-for-24 at the line, which is inexcusable at this level. It's not like Andre Drummond is still on the team, but that's who they shot like.

Jarrett Allen dominated his matchups with 17 points and 16 boards. Poetl and Landale combined for 5 points. Mobley played 39 minutes with 15 points and 6 boards.

The Spurs average 115 points per game at home and the Cavs held them to 109. The defense was pretty good, but the Spurs just were hotter than normal from deep.

That half-court prayer by Garland that went in at the end of the first half turned out to be a pretty big shot. Also Cedi's 3-pointer at the buzzer at the end of the third.

It was great to see the Cavs impose their will late in the 4th as they are below .500 this year in late and close games. Definitely a sign of growth. But unfortunately, their key guys played a lot of minutes, especially Mobley, and they have a game tomorrow. I hope tonight's win doesn't result in a loss to a bad team the next night.

I’m giving my player off the game to Goodwin…7 pts 5 ast

Simply don’t win the game without that unexpected contribution
Absolutely, 7 points and 5 assists in only 11 minutes with no turnovers. Rondo could not have done better. Goodwin's contribution was big. Assuming each assist resulted in 2 points it means Goodwin was directly involved in scoring 17 points in his 11 minutes. Very impressive and Rubioesque.

Oklahoma City shoots 31% from three which ranks dead last in the NBA. Combined with the fact that they're automatically going to have trouble scoring inside against our bigs, you would think we should be able to cruise to victory regardless of it being a back-to-back.

If we lose, it'll be because SGA torches us for like 40.

Good to escape with a win. Now everyone go home and shoot 1,000 FTs. DG was 6-6 from the line; everyone else was 8-18.

DG took the team on his back, tonight. All the other guys owe him a 24-oz porterhouse with a baked potato. Clean it up for tomorrow night!

Still owes us for the Memphis game he blew.

3 of our next 6 games are against:

Brooklyn
Chicago
Milwaukee

It would be great if we could make up some ground in the standings. And also prove we can beat the top teams.
I honestly expect to be blown out by the Nets. Not because we aren't good, but I see fatigue in DG, Mobley, and JA. They need a mini-rest after OKC.

Good win, tonight. If we could have just shot poorly from the FT line (instead of awful), the game would not have been all that close.

It has been great to go 4-1 on the road trip and I admire the resilience of this team. I've got to admit, though, I was devastated by the Rubio injury, and it really dampened both my spirits and my optimism for the team. There are lots of great stories for us this year, but I thought Rubio was essential for our success -- we are a different team without him. I hope Rondo can get healthy and provide us 18 quality minutes per game. He isn't Rubio, but we still need him.

I expect OKC to shoot way, way better than their norm on 3's. Teams just seem to do that against us.

First game thread hangout for me in weeks. How's the crew in here doing on this fine Friday?

(Pulls up a stool at the RCF bar and pinches @Lee on the ass)

Brother, better bring a sandwich, because I got allot of ass to pinch.

Doesn’t she have the “sexy librarian” thing going?
I’ve never one time ever thought a librarian was sexy… never…

That’s the look that she’s shooting for….

Now I will say she’s probably a total freak…. There’s gonna be one of these nights when they cut back to her and she’s on her Sybian recording for her onlyfans…
