Game Thread | 2021-2022 Season | Game #46 | Cavs @ Bulls | Jan. 19, 2022 | 8:00 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You know the Bulls lost the rebounding battle, tonight, yea?

Disagree on what you think Mobley can and can't be as a creator on the wing.

Durant? No.

But more than Garnett in that regard? Yea.
Which is great…. Mobley upping that to 10-12, maybe the Cavs are in a better position to win the game…

Garnett was a front court player…. And smashed your ass on the boards nightly… If Garnett is the ceiling ??? Better start boxing out

Mobley is 19 and hasn't had a chance to put on NBA weight. I'm not worried about his rebounding at this point. He has the motor, he doesn't have the strength.

Now, someone tell me why our utility SG who is supposed to be doing the little things gets 3 rebounds a night? Like, THATS Where Okoro needs to go help. Those are the areas he can impact the game. He's got the strength and athletic ability. He needs to be a guy who does the dirty work.

The Bulls will be a force. Lavine and DeRozan can both get you 40 any given night and they have some high level role players at key spots. They’d be a pretty heavy favorite over us if healthy in a playoff matchup.

We just don’t have the offensive firepower to get away with playing the type of D we did tonight. We need Garland, Mobley and Allen all playing at a high level to trade punches with the top teams and Allen got massively outplayed by Vuc tonight.

We had 5 more turnovers and it seems like each one was worth 4 points to them (2 less for us, 2-3 more for them). And our paint defense was ass. They had a dozen more pitp than we did. They shot 45% from three and we shot 33%. Otherwise things were fairly even but the deficits above were enough to make this game unwinnable.

Bottom line, they were hungry for this win and we weren't.

That’s a good point. Allen really hurt his case tonight around the league for voters picking their reserve ballots.
Nah. Coaches aren't fickle like fans. This game changes nothing for JA.

Individual stats:

Starters:

Markkanen 28-7-0 with a steal and a block in 32 minutes. He needed to play at least 38 the way he was shooting.
Mobley 18-5-2 with a steal and 2 blocks in 31 minutes
Allen 6-10-3 with a steal and a block in 36 minutes He looked sluggish and probably should have given up 4 of his minutes to Lauri
Okoro 8-0-3 in 29 minutes Worked hard on defense but wasn't there offensively
Garland 20-5-12 in 40 minutes

JBB probably played him so much because we have 3 days off.

Bench:

Love 13-8-4 in 21 minutes. Despite missing a lot in the first half, he ended up 5-10 from the field
Windler 5-2-0 with a steal in 17 minutes
Osman 2-1-1 with a steal in 17 minutes
Goodwin 4-0-2 with a steal in 11 minutes

I'm glad everyone on this forum has high expectations for the Cavs so that when we have an off night, it seems abysmal. But we'll bounce back.

Gonna type these numbers out because they're almost unbelievable. I know people will jump down my throat, but in projecting what we all want Okoro to be based on what he is, these numbers are unacceptable.

In the last 5 games Okoro has grabbed a total of 3 rebounds.

In the last 3 games, he's played 24 minutes, 32 minutes, and 30 minutes, and has 1 rebound total.

Considering the areas he lacks in, that's not good enough on a team already struggling to rebound defensively.

Well, that winning streak was fun while it lasted. The Cavs looked tired tonight, especially Allen. I was wondering if he has the flu or something. He looked like he was playing underwater. Vucevic ate him up with 24 points and 12 rebounds compared to 6 and 10 for Allen in 36 minutes.

The defense just was not there as the Bulls, playing without two of their top scorers, rolled up 117 points on 54.7% from the field. No way I want to face this team in the playoffs, especially once they add Ball and LaVine. DeRo is just unstoppable. Caruso was a +18 in 23 minutes in his first game in over a month. Donsumu, a rookie, scored 18 points on only 8 shots and kicked in 8 assists. They have a ton of talent.

The good news is Markkanen continues his surge with a 28-point night, a season high. If he keeps playing like this we'll win a lot of games. Love had a nice line of 13/8/4 in 21 minutes, but he's a real defensive liability.

Cedi had a miserable game with 2 points in 17 minutes on 1-for-5, and that was an uncontested layup. He and Allen were totally out of it and against a team like the Bulls you need everybody to play well.

They said the Cavs were outscored 21-6 on turnovers. There's the difference in the final score right there.

The Bulls outscored the Cavs by 14 in the 2nd quarter and that was the difference. DeRo took over the game and had something like 14 points in the quarter.

The Cavs were right there with 4:18 remaining, trailing by one point. But the Bulls went on an 11-0 run to put it away. That run included four missed shots, two turnovers, and a clear path foul by the Cavs as they totally imploded.

I think the Cavs were tired plus a couple of key players had very bad games and the bench other than Love was only good for 11 points. The defense was the worst I've seen since the first couple of games. Now they have two days off followed by a home game against OKC. Flush it and move on.

Too many turnovers and too much DeRozen.
What you saw in DeRozen tonight IS the exact missing piece the Cavs need to make this team a legit EC contender.

And it’s also technique, it’s also desire, it’s also effort…

Mobley is standing there a lot of times watching the play, he’s not boxing out…

Will he get there ? I’m sure he will. But it’s gonna have to be a point of emphasis because he simply can’t be a 7ft front court player pulling down 5-7 rebounds a night for this team… If this team has bigger goals than the 1997 Minnesota Timberwolves

True.

But he’s a 6’4” shooting guard on this team

He doesn't need to rebound because he has so many points and assists.

Cavs start three guys that are 7 footers…. And we are cracking on Okoro’s rebounding at the 2guard spot ?

Is this real life ?

True.

But we're talking about what a player contributes to the team.

Ok, if my guy can't shoot, doesn't handle the rock, doesn't set guys up...then he needs to go impact the game somewhere else.

Considering one of his qualities is supposed to be hustle and effort...that's just not good enough. He doesn't do enough other things to justify that. He should be absolutely flying after defensive boards.
