Game Thread | 2021-2022 Season | Game #46 | Cavs @ Bulls | Jan. 19, 2022 | 8:00 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What does 2 or 3 rebounds really do in the grand scheme of things anyways, especially when Cavs usually win the rebounding battle? In regards to Okoro's lack of whatever it is to snag rebounds.

Garland has also been snagging some away. I don't ever expect Okoro to get more than 3 rebounds anyways. I just don't find the big deal when you have 3 7 footers out there crashing the glass, why have your 2 guard go for boards too? Hit the break

But we're talking about what a player contributes to the team.

Ok, if my guy can't shoot, doesn't handle the rock, doesn't set guys up...then he needs to go impact the game somewhere else.

Considering one of his qualities is supposed to be hustle and effort...that's just not good enough. He doesn't do enough other things to justify that. He should be absolutely flying after defensive boards.
So you identify hustle and effort as rebounding traits ?

Which has nothing to do with size and weight ?

Get on the glass, Mobley !

So much for we’re going to win all our games and be the #1 seed. Got outclassed tonight by a Bulls team missing Lavine and Ball. The Nets win was nice but they would have clobbered us with Durant. We’re a year or two plus a high level two way backcourt player away from being a top tier team. I still love us but it is what it is.

Well, that winning streak was fun while it lasted. The Cavs looked tired tonight, especially Allen. I was wondering if he has the flu or something. He looked like he was playing underwater. Vucevic ate him up with 24 points and 12 rebounds compared to 6 and 10 for Allen in 36 minutes.

They said the Cavs were outscored 21-6 on turnovers. There's the difference in the final score right there.
Keys to the game right there. I agree the whole Cavs team looked whipped, tired, bad body language. Very well could be a hangover and letdown after the Nets win.

Is is safe to assume we've gotten through the shittiest part of the schedule?

I'm identifying weaknesses of the team and overall, the things Mobley brings to the table on a nightly basis, 45 games into his career, far, far, far exceeds what our 2nd year starting shooting guard brings to the table.

And he needs to do something to start closing that gap to justify continuing to be a starter. He can help on the boards. Take a weakness and make it a strength and turn into a niche. A rebounding shooting guard.

That's what PJ Tucker did.

Right !

You have three 7 footers… You’re asking Okoro to defend the best perimeter player nightly… Did he tonight ? Nope…. Does he give you an honest effort almost every night in that regard ? Yes he does…

I can’t rip THAT guy for rebounding when you have that kinda front court size in addition to what he’s asked to do….

Yeah if I’m choosing a player going forward between Mobley & Okoro it’s gonna be Mobley….

I’m I’m choosing a guy to rebound the ball between Mobley & Okoro it’s gonna be Mobley….

Crazy to me. Okoro is asked to do essentially nothing on one end of the court.

That dude is gonna need to turn himself into a PJ Tucker/Josh Hart type of player if he's gonna stick in a starting rotation and figure out how to do other things.

They need Okoro to be the tough, mean, nasty guy. That's what his role needs to be.

Just like Mobley is gonna have to turn into Garnett for this team to take the next step….

Okoro needs to hit open corner 3’s— cut to the basket and defend….

Mobley is gonna have to become the 2nd or primary offensive option, defend the paint, rebound…

Right! Just like you have a deluxe 7 footer out there who is gonna need to get tougher and rebound unless you’re gonna run him at the 3

Mobley may become that guy, but to me it doesn't look like he's wired that way.

Maybe Okoro isn't either BUT he HAS to be to stick in the starting rotation.

Mobley is gonna be plenty of other things to overcome lacking in that area.

Okoro won't.

If Mobley never manages to grab more than 8 boards a night, he'll still end up making all-star games and getting max contracts.

If Okoro doesn't get mean, tough, and a little dirty, he's gonna struggle to be more than a journeyman.
