Game Thread | 2021-2022 Season | Game #70 | Nuggets @ Cavs | March 18, 2022 | 7:30 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Great day for Cleveland sports— epic comeback win over the Nuggets, Browns get the QB they wanted and the Guardians notch their first victory ever.

Tonights game was an example of why there is no definitive answer yet on whether Goodwin should be the permanent backup PG.

Goodwin because of his limited experience and resume has some brilliant moments but has games clunkers like today

Rondo can look great when the entire team is healthy and he gets 3-4 straight games of adjusting to how to work with each guy but he can't stay healthy himself

It's not so cut and dry in either direction, though I imagine the FO 100% expects/wants Rondo to be the backup PG if he's healthy down the stretch and in the playoffs

Garland shot it and knew it'd miss, so he went up right after it and outquicked Jocic.

Quickness counts.
Ehh he shot to make that. It wasn’t a terrible miss. Just a good bounce a better effort. And honestly the pass back to Mark was almost better than the rebound itself. Theee guys around him and he delivered a dart. Mark hit the shot.

OH. MY. GOODNESS!

I was all set to watch the OT when the baby started begging for food, AND then soiled his diaper during the feed, so I missed the whole freaking OT. Had to lecture the little dude about interfering with Mommy's basketball ;) But VERY glad to find out we pulled out an OT win against a quality squad like the Nuggets! With this, and my dude Russell Westbrook saving the night and giving the Raptors an L (MORATORIUM ON DISSING HIM FOR AWHILE PLZ), I'm super happy! Just wish I could have seen more of it. Baby was just too much of a handful tonight, and husband was too exhausted to stay up further to help.

Here’s how I see it.

If you have enough talent and spacing to put around Rondo…he’s the better option usually.

But if you need a guy to make something out of nothing…Godwin’s the better option because Rondos first step is gone.

Realistically, neither is a good option and the Cavs never replaced what they lost with Rubio and are experiencing the consequences of that.

Regardless of LeVert, the Cavs need to prioritize finding another backup point guard this offseason. They have to find a backup PG that can run the team and preferably make threes, and they need to find a wing that can defend well and shoot the ball even better.

Koby definitely has his work cut out for him. You can definitely get one guy with the MLE, my guess is they decide Sextons will have the ball most of the time with that unit, spend the MLE on a wing, and maybe they find a way to land a distributor.

They could always give Rubio a minimum deal and hope he comes back from the ACL halfway through the season…but I’m very skeptical about Rubio after he tore that same ACL again. I think they have to search elsewhere.

Tomas Satoransky is a guy I like since he’s got size, can hit a 3, and can defend and distribute but he seems to like Washington. He’d be a good fit with Sexton IMO. They have to get one more guy though who really can run an offense.l, defend and shoot. Maybe they can do something on draft night. We’ll see.

I agree about the great pass. He knew where Mark would be and zipped it out before anyone reacted to the rebound.

Wait, so you won your battle to stop any dissing of Kevin Love and now you’re trying to switch to protecting Westbrook? Much harder lift! It will take more than one good game LOL

Levert was supposed to address this problem to at least some degree. More than he has so far

I agree in general with this and IF Rondo had been here since day one, I could see a matchup based rotation.
But since I feel strongly the FO wants Rondo playing in the playoffs and since he's missed so much time since he's gotten here, its kind of hard to not immediately play him as soon as he's healthy and give him the game/rope to get comfortable with where everyone on this team likes the ball, etc.

Like Satornsky as well. Brings Cedi size with much better ball handling and much less spaz tendencies when he's trying to playmake.

I would 100% bring Rubio back even if it means only having 14 guys until January.

The PG brain power/mentoring power/collaboration power from having Rubio, Rondo, and Calderon in this origination all at the same time is massive for guys like Garland, LeVert, Sexton, if he's back and even your favorite guy, JBB. I think it's very intentional that Koby brought all three into the organization and I hope he's tries everything possible to bring back both Rondo and Rubio.
