Game Thread | 2021-2022 Season | Game #77 | Cavs @ Hawks | March 31, 2022 | 7:30 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Bucks courtesy of a Giannis three are heading to OT against the Nets

Expected this on a back to back with a depleted team.
Don't like losing to this team, they're like Raptors South at this point.
But the Cavs have much to address in the offseason besides returning personnel.

KD's charmin soft ass wants nothing to do with Greek Freak's defense. Every time KD gets the ball with Giannis on him, KD switches to get him off.

Whatcha gonna do?!
Walloped.

That Dylan drive and dunk though!

Still had a really nice time and talked to a really cool Hawks fan I was sitting next to. :)

Play-in is likely, let's hope the Cavs have guys back

Cavs were thoroughly beat in every phase and trailed 100-75 after three quarters. The Cavs had no defense whatsoever as Young put up 30 points in 28 minutes and took the fourth quarter off. The Hawks outscored the Cavs by 30 points from the 3-point line and won by 24. The Cavs won't beat anybody going 7-for-30 from deep. It was embarassing watching 3-pointers banging or glancing off the rim.

The Cavs' power forwards, Love and Markkanen, combined for a -28 in 41 minutes. There were a couple of bright spots. Moses Brown had 15 points and 13 rebounds in 26 minutes. Daugherty was saying he just needs a summer to work on his footwork and we could have a solid contributor off the bench.

Cedi got out of the penalty box and had a line of 21/6/4 in 27 minutes, although some of those numbers were put up in garbage time against the Hawks' bench. Windler got the first dunk of his NBA career but dented the rims going 0-for-5 on 3's. It would have been 0-for-6 but he stepped on the sideline attempting another one.

Clint Capela loves playing against the Cavs almost as much as Young; Capela had 14 rebounds, including 6 on the offensive glass, and also blocked three shots. He was a +24 in 23 minutes. When Capela took a break from pushing the Cavs around Onyeka Okongwu came in and put up 17 points and 12 rebounds, going 6-for-6 from the field. The Hawks' big men combined for 40 points, 26 rebounds, and 4 blocks as they feasted without having Allen or Mobley to contend with.

Garland had a rare bad game going 7-for-21 and a -18. LeVert didn't help much after his 31-point game, scoring just 9 points. He may not be ready to play back-to-backs after recently missing a month with an ankle injury.

The 131 points were tied for the second most given up by the Cavs this year and the Hawks went to their bench after three quarters. The Cavs' defense has gone from top five to probably bottom five overnight.

Time to pack it in. All of the team's momentum that they sustained with Rubio versus the hardest schedule is long gone. It carried over to the home game vs the Bucks, and our last fun game was versus Indiana the day of deadline which we saw the Cavalanche of the year. The game at Charlotte was very fun too.

They traded for Rondo to try to lessen the blow, yeah, that wasn't going to work.

Snake bitten is the definition of this team. So many guys in and out, one comes back, another goes out. While two went out for the year.

I don't see us beating Brooklyn with Allen and Mobley.

Always a chance vs Atlanta or Charlotte, but with the way we are playing it'll be a gentleman's sweep for the 1 seed.

A lottery pick does very little for us in 2023, but it's a good piece to dangle for trade or something. Or just go ahead and select a wing and hope it's a hit.
If it nabs us a “real” SG (over 6’3) in this draft the pick will do us a lot of good!

OK, here's my extended thoughts on the game:

A shitshow.

Made me think of the first Cavs win of the season. God I loved how that team played.

There was a play earlier where LeVert passed the ball to the top of the key to Stevens. That was pass 1.

Pass 2 was then to Kevin Love who hoisted a very quick 3, which was a bad shot.

But also, at that same time, Cedi was curling to exactly the spot on the floor Kevin Love was occupying.

This is the shit people talk about when they say there's no system at all out here. It's just freelancing 90% of the time.

And it's happening on defense now too. There's no principles, no idea of what they're trying to do.
Exactly.

Just way too many low BBIQ guys on the team to run an "offense" of this type. Stevens in particular has a maddening tendency to be totally oblivious to court balance. He regularly brings his defender to the exact area where Garland is driving to.

JBB didn't mince any words.

Offensively we did a lot of standing and watching tonight. We played a lot of one-on-one basketball without any movement or sharing the ball or cutting or respacing to help one another,” Cavs coach J.B. Bickerstaff said following the loss. “Then defensively, I just don’t think we played with enough force. Obviously they’re a high-powered offensive team, but at some point you have to hold your ground and pick something to take away and I thought tonight we gave up everything.”

I think he's lost the team at this point. If you can't get up for games like this without feeling you're fighting for your professional life (hi Moses), you're done.
