Game Thread | 2021-2022 Season | Game #78 | Cavs @ Knicks | April 2, 2022 | 1:00 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Once again I'll remind you who our coach is "JBB". I seen this man play Garland entire quarters/halves instead of putting Goodwin in for a spell. All with a busted back.
Busted back - sure, he’s able to play that many minutes and put up big numbers with a “busted back”.

He’s playing Okoro who needs hip replacement surgery.

People are so mad that the Cavaliers won big and there’s not much to bitch about so let’s make stuff up. Busted back - Garland isn’t Ben Simmons.

Given the brutal schedule ahead, this win is essential.

If we want to keep the advantageous 7 or 8 slot in the play-in, yeah. I said as much I think Thursday on the main Cavs talk thread. But I would prefer us to lose in the play in and keep our lottery pick, so I wouldn’t mind dropping to 9.

We have clinched a play in spot in any case

I want this young team to go through a playoff series... I think that's valuable.

But one could make the argument that playing 2 high-stakes playin games, even if both are losses - is growth too...and combined with a lottery pick might be worth it.

Either way, this team's long term future doesn't depend on what whether they make the playoffs or not. Even if they stayed healthy and got the #4 seed, long term it wouldn't be any different. Next year is next year. Look at the Hawks and Knicks from last year to this one.

Long term, I feel great about these guys...

Individual stats:

Starters:
LeVert 19-6-6 with 2 steals in 36 minutes. Good game!
Markkanen 10-8-1 in 24 minutes Why so few minutes?
Brown 16-13-0- with a block in 30 minutes. Productive! Next step, play 36 minutes!
Garland 24-0-13 in 36 minutes.
Okoro 16-2-2 in 30 minutes Good game.

Bench: 34-13-4 in 27 minutes

Love 15-5-1 with a steal and a block in 27 minutes
Stevens 7-5-0 with 2 steals i 23 minutes
Goodwin 2-0-0 with a steal in 10 minutes
Osman 10-3-3 with a block in 18 minutes
Windler 0-0-0 in 2 minutes
Davis 0-0-0 in 2 minutes

Nice win for the Cavs - figured this one and Orlando are our two wins in the last five, which should be enough to hold onto the 7 seed and give us two home games at worst. Steal a game to finish 3-2 and we're basically a lock for the 7. The Brooklyn/Atlanta game tonight is a big one for seeding as well. Can't believe the minority here that would prefer the Cavs miss the playoffs, but I guess you'll always have a few. I'm excited to JA and Mobley back and hope to get a full series at a minimum.

As for today's game, Caris seems to be finding his role and has moved the ball much better. He's had his stretches of dribbling into a collapsing defense and taking the mid range shots we've all heard about, but I've liked the way he and DG have played off of each other the past couple games. If DG hits a few more of the open catch and shoot 3s that Levert found him for, this game could've been blown open even earlier and Caris' line would look even better. Garland put up great numbers again and only played 36 minutes which hasn't quieted the group that keeps JBB's minutes management under a microscope. I'd like to see Goodwin as well for like 3 minutes bridging the 3rd and 4th quarters but with all of the injuries, I can see why DG's been up around 40 mpg.

Moses had a great game and seems to be a good project going forward. I don't think he necessarily needs minutes when our big men are back, but he's someone I can see being a backup center with some development.

Imagine have the combination of Mobley/allen
Mobley/brown
Jarrett/brown
Love/brown

Shit there’s minutes for everyone jbb would be retarded if he don’t play brown more often
The man is too stubborn for his own good. While team is ravishing from injuries he decided to shorten the bench to an 8 men rotation.

Good post buddy I agree

Goodwin comes in and in the last few games has +/- in the -11 to -17 range

JBB knew we needed this win and he was pulling out all the stops. He played Garland all but the final 33 seconds of the third quarter and then started him in the 4th until the game was effectively over.

Nice defense in the second half holding the Knicks to only 41 points. Barnett ended up 4-for-18 from the field - he averaged 24 points per game in March.

Moses Brown continues to make a case for being in the plans for next year with 16 points and 13 rebounds in 30 minutes. LeVert continues to get comfortable with a line of 19/6/6, including some tough buckets where he had to make something out of nothing with the clock expiring.

Garland had another good game with 24 points and 13 assists but he continues to struggle on the corner 3's, missing two more wide open ones today. Okoro had a quietly efficient game going 7-for-8 from the field for 16 points.

The Cavs committed only 9 turnovers and limited the Knicks to 6 offensive rebounds. The Cavs had 26 assists. Very nice numbers against a team that came in 8th in scoring defense.

Goodwin was a -8 in 10 minutes. He's getting to be unplayable. Is Rondo anywhere close to getting back?

JBB has ruined Goodwin like he ruined Cedi. The quick hooks and unexplained DNP's just start adding up after a while. Goodwin used to be confident – now he's playing scared and is second-guessing himself.

I hate the way JBB apparently feels compelled to play power games with these guys who exist in the margins of the roster. Now you're in my good graces, now you're in the doghouse.Yeah, you just earned the Junkyard Dog chain... but as for getting minutes in the next game? Go fuck yourself.

Don't bother looking for logic.

I'm highly concerned that Moses is going to hurt himself trying to bring the hoop down when he dunks.

That’s crazy he looks like a valuable development back up center it would be idiotic not playing him
He was on the street when we pick him up, he not taking minutes from Mobley or Allen, great end of the bench big…..
