Game Thread | 2021-2022 Season | Play-in Game #1 | Cavs @ Nets | April 12, 2022 | 7:00 p.m. TNT

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Play In games have been a pretty decent draw for them thus far. Honestly it's pretty exciting stuff. Good reason for those fringe teams to keep fighting until the end of the season.

As far as ratings, the NBA could care less. Not only are ratings down, but they're going to get even more money on their next TV deal. You'll see guys getting 5 yr/350M deals.

I love the play in. There wasn’t much exciting about being a 7 or 8 seed before. If you want to avoid the play in just be good enough to finish in the top six. Simple

We’ll whoop Charlotte and get blasted by Atlanta.
Basically we're I'm at. I think the game against Atlanta could be uglier than the Nets game tbh. We just don't have the personnel to stop Trae Young and they have playoff experience from last year and a better coach.

If Allen is healthy though, I would be shocked if we let Charlotte beat us.

I think if JA was healthy enough to contribute and play tonight we could have beaten the Nets. They had way too many easy layups and JA just erases those. Plus JA can get buckets efficiently.

I'm just tired of turning up the effort down 20 every game when the pressure is off. If this team came out these games with their hair on fire, they wouldn't have needed the play in. Too much of this we don't deserve to be here, we're ahead of schedule, loveable lovers crap

Some nights, I would agree with that. This was the 1st meaningful game for our entire starting lineup aside from Caris' playoff experience with the Nets. They got punched in the mouth by two of the greatest scorers ever. Fought back and won every quarter except the 1st one.

Great effort from the young Cavs, an effort that was given a huge trashing on his board by the Real Cavs Fans. They got to a bad start, but won the last three quarters in a hostile building. Put Allen out there and we win this game.

Agreed

Tonight was a great learning experience for this team. Really happy that the moment didn't seem too big for our two young stars Garland and Mobley. They both, especially Garland, played well. If they're playing like this at 20 and 22 in a (semi) playoff game, I can't wait to see how many playoff games they win for us in the future. Also happy that the veterans in Love and Rondo stepped up and helped the team fight back when things looked super bleak, that's exactly what they need to do in games like this. Also really hope JB starts Stevens over Okoro... I don't think he will but I hope he does. Stevens does everything Okoro does but better. Just plays with more aggression. I feel good about us winning on Friday whether it's against Atlanta or Charlotte (I'd obviously rather play Charlotte). Really hope we get a full playoff series for our young guys to experience, but if not, tonight and Friday will still end up being great for this team to learn from.

The Nets won this one with a 10-0 run in the final two minutes of the first quarter. The other 46 minutes the Cavs beat them by 2.

No way Durant and Kyrie were going to allow the Nets to lose. But they had help. Their two centers, Drummond and Claxton, combined for 29 points, 17 rebounds, and 5 blocks. They were 13-for-17 from the field as Kyrie, KD, and Brown set them up for dunk after dunk.

Brown had a similar game to last week with a line of 18/9/8. The Nets blocked 9 shots which was a huge factor in the outcome. Most of those blocks were right at the rim on layup attempts.

Okoro missed three uncontested corner 3's and only played 13 minutes. His line was 0/1/1 and a -9. I'm wondering if JBB is finally starting to take off the rose tinted glasses.

Rondo played 26 minutes and had 9 assists and no turnovers. That's what we need from him.

The Cavs played pretty well but without Allen the Nets' centers feasted in the paint while Kyrie and Kevin did their thing. No shame in this loss. There was a lot to like, starting with Garland's 34 points and Mobley's 19 and 7. Love had a nice game with 14 points and 13 boards.

if my aunt had wheels.....

I just have no idea.

I like how the Cavs battled but I’m not sure how locked I’m and engaged the Nets were in the second, third, and beginning of the 4th quarter.

I know with Allen and Sexton we would have had a more varied arsenal to attack and defend with. I know with experience a lot of these guys will understand how to best maximize and complement each other.

I’m really conflicted with a Devil on my shoulder saying just lose the next one and gain the lotto pick/asset and absolutely HATING that I’m thinking that

Totally agree that the Nets floated a bit in the third and fourth until Durant really turned it on. But I think they’d have found themselves similarly floating had we had available Allen (and Sexton), too, but for us, that would’ve been enough to steal it. We’d be outgunned and outmanned even fully healthy, but we didn’t need to win a series against this team.

As for the next game, I’m starting to feel a bit of the same conflict despite feeling totally committed to winning tonight. If there was greater hope of Allen being healthy going into the first round, I think that’d really help me make a choice.

I can live with KD and Kyrie going off. It's that little bullshit under the basket that kept grinding my gears. With Allen, u eliminate half of those points. Regardless of what happens, I can't wait for next season. We really got something brewing here.
