Game Thread | 2021-22 Season | Game #4 | Cavs @ Nuggets | Oct. 25, 2021

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Aimless dribbling with 7 assist? One less than Rubio? After coming back from a sprained ankle? DG + 12 second to Mobley.

It’s only four games into the season, my friend. Everyone is finding their groove.
I don't know how anyone could have watched this game and thought Garland played a good game. Stop just reading his assists off the stat sheet. He single handedly caused a 5-6 point swing by jacking up an early shot before the half and then fouling Jokic on a 3. He took way too long to initiate offense all night and he spent so much time dribbling to the basket and back around without showing any intention of scoring, which led to bad late shot clock attempts by the Cavs once he kicked out to a guy who wasn't that open. And he was extremely hesitant to shoot the three when he should be pulling it every time he gets daylight.

Allen went Shaq mode tonight and yet the Cavs still only scored 99 points. Garland's PG play was a huge reason for that. He's not the only reason, mind you, but bringing up his 7 assists to say he orchestrated the offense well is laughable.

I know it's just one game but I was much more impressed with both Miles Bridges and Cam Reddish than with super max MPJ. Bridges and Reddish seem like better 2 way players.
Because they are haha. You're 100% right.

This is my first post in like 3 years. Just lurk on here but yea i was wondering what the hell he was doing. I thought for a second he may have been hurt. It was really weird and Ricky had to shoot a 3 which had no chance.
I noticed it too. Really strange and stupid possession by Darius. All he did was close the defense on Ricky in the corner.

Now THAT was a statement game! Last year the Cavs lost here by 38 points. Not this year, baby! This is a whole new team, one that is way better than anyone imagined they could be. And we're only four games in.

Jared Allen was amazing with 21 points and 16 boards, playing Jokic to a standstill. Jokic and 24 and 19, but also six turnovers. Allen had none.

Everyone contributed. Love chipped in 22 points and 6 boards in 21 minutes. Markkanen finally looked more comfortable even though he was only 4-for-12. He had four steals and played good defense.

The defense was amazing, holding the opponent to 41% for the second game in a row. The Nuggets were 9-for-38 on 3's, but many of those shots were contested with a hand right in the face of the shooter.

The Nuggets tied the game at 70 but the Cavs scored the last 5 points of the third quarter and, with Jokic on the bench to start the 4th, started with a 10-3 run before he returned with the Nuggets down 12. Even with the MVP back on the floor the Nuggets couldn't get closer and the Cavs pushed their lead to 17 at one point. For the game the Nuggets were a -12 with Jokic on the floor.

Just an amazing performance by the Cavs who were not intimidated in the slightest. Good job by Bickerstaff to have the right players on the floor at the right time. He had Allen on the floor whenever Jokic was on the floor. He saw Love was having a good game and gave him 22 minutes.

This team can compete with anybody.

The poster is too in love with Garland to see his faults.

That Garland energy is REAL and EQUAL from both sides.

The big circlej*rk to bury the kid from two games this season, one coming off missing a few days with a tweaked ankle is some special stuff. And yes, I see some superlative stuff that has yet to be earned by DG either.

I also see a young point guard still figuring things out with a 3.9 to 1 AST/TO ratio through his two games

That's good. He's done some bad things too. It's been two freaking games.

It's going to really suck if this becomes more of a multi year war between posters takes on opinions on the players, done up to the hilt and personal, instead of actual even keel analysis of the player
I like Garland. But I wanted him off the floor tonight. He clearly didn't have it and a hard fought game like tonight is no time to let him "find himself". I wanted the win and we got it, no thanks to DG's performance tonight.

He'll have nights where he's great, and his shot will be falling. He'll never be worth a shit on the defensive end.

I hate how much the guy dribbles. We don't need anyone taking the air out of the ball. That flat out needs to change. It's like he wants to show off his handles. Use it in spurts, not to eat up half the shot clock on every possession.

Mobley still going for 10 and 8 and a team-high +15, on his “off nigt”.
Cmon man, I fucking LOVE our baby giraffe, but I can't harp on his +/- tonight when his +/- figures in the first few games have left a lot to desire. Don't get me wrong, my position is that if I'm willing to overlook some ugly +/- figures from Mobley in his first couple games, it's not fair to fawn over +/- figures when he finishes at the top.

TL;DR: Mobley is better than advertised but we should think he's awesome enough to continue to improve!!

The most telling stat for Garland this season is that he hasn't shot a single free throw. I'm not ragging on him - just pointing out that what is preventing him from excelling offensively is a lack of aggressiveness. Pounding the ball, overdribbling, etc., are just symptoms.

He just has to go inside more than he does.

I know you're happy about the win. So am I but you might want to pump the breaks. We started out good early last year too.
