Game Thread | 2021-22 Season | Game #9 | Trailblazers @ Cavs | Nov. 3, 2021

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's up to the players to execute them.
Something that needs to be worked on in practice - those inbound plays from the baseline under our basket. With all the height we have it shouldn't be too hard to lob it to a big coming to the ball.

They opened the door for a game-tying shot last night by screwing up two inbounds passes.

I think in time you see the Cavs learn to close it out early. "Learning to win" is something all young teams go through. We are winning despite trying to give it back every game we played this year. Even in all of our losses, we could have won. Memphis got it down to 1, had a lead vs the Hornets, same with Lakers & PHX.

We learn to clean up our games and you'll see this team hit another gear that will upset some of the best teams in the league.
“I don’t know how it’s been here for previous years, but I’ve experienced it in my short career, a team makes a run, and you start panicking and they smell blood,” Markkanen said. “I think we were able to do a good job, staying calm and going into the next possession. Of course, you’re going to make mistakes, but we competed so hard, and we were able to finish possessions, so just being on the same page together at the end and playing for each other. Think that’s what we do.”

The Cavs are learning how to stop those runs earlier, before it gets to 19-2 or 21-2. Last night I think it was a 13-3 run and the Cavs stopped it when they still had a one-point lead and got back in control.

What do you think it would cost to extend Rubio? He is one of those players who can probably maintain his current level of play into his mid 30s, because his game is based on savvy and experience, not athleticism (like John Stockton). No one we would we get in a trade for Rubio would be better than him now, and we don't need more prospects. We are young enough now.
Would Rubio want to stick around in his current role of coming off the bench? He's getting 28.2 minutes, which seems about right for his age and position.

If a contender offers him a chance to start would he go there?

If he likes this team and his role then I'm all for keeping him. His +/- is +4.2, highest on the team.

People talking about why we are finishing games better don’t need to look very hard at what has changed. - He’s a huge part of why we are not falling apart when games get tight and we face adversity. He‘d probably rather be somewhere other than Cleveland, but it we keep winning and he keeps being an important part of that, I don’t see how we let him go. And, even if we aren’t his preferred destination, players like winning and they like playing time. He might not be as excited about leaving if we are a playoff team and he’s a crucial part of it.

This is literally the motion Rubio does when he shoots a jumper.

I feel sorry for the transmission on that car and the driver of it is probably shitting himself with that giant
kid leaping over him smh

Mobley is having a tough game so far. I think he's trying to do too much on the offensive end. I want to see him get the ball closer to the rim.
The more he improves his range the better he will be this season. He is never going to be a center like some are thinking imo

It’s also up to the coach to call time-out, before it gets out of hand. JBB is bad at that. He almost gave the Hornets game away, because he waited too long.

His play-making is awesome, but is his shot really that busted? He’s shooting south of 35%, and was 0-7, last night. What’s up with that? _I_ could probably make 1/3 of my shots, if you inserted me into the line-up.

I don't think he will find many places where he is as valued as much as he is here. There aren't very many contenders in the NBA to begin with and if he did go to one, he is likely to be a backup. Moreover, as another poster wrote, we could actually have two starting fives here:
Garland, Okoro, Windler, Allen, Mobley (excellent defense, with two shooters)
Rubio, Sexton, Osman, Markannen, Love (weak on defense, with four shooters)

he has been great really compared to his career averages until last night so there is that
