Game Thread | Game #18 | Trail Blazers @ Cavs | Nov. 23, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Taking LeVert out of the starting lineup has helped the chemistry allot. I said it before the year, but recanted a bit because of LeVerts effort on D, but the 3rd ball handler they have to worry about is too many chefs in the kitchen type scenerio.
Yup. Too many options. Having Garland and Mitchell is enough, they’re the best backcourt in the NBA on a lot of nights… another option to create is just diminishing returns.

Cavs with a good game offensively and defensively for 48 minutes. We win by 18.

This was my ten-leg parlay tonight - hit 9 of 10. Mitchell just couldn’t get those 5 assists. Would have won $503 from a $10 bet.

Now individual stats. And boy, do we have the individuals!

Starters:
Stevens 12-1-0 in 28 minutes
Mobley 10-12-3 with 3 blocks in 35 minutes
Allen 24-13-2 with a block in 36 minutes 10-12 FG! 6 turnovers, and I screamed at each one, mostly bad passes.
Mitchell 34-2-1 with 2 blocks in 31 minutes 11-18 FG, 6-10 from 3. That'll do.
Garland 24-0-12 in 35 minutes. He started 1-6 fg and finished 8-13, with 4-9 from 3 for 44%

58 points from our backcourt is ridiculous, but add in 46 from our frontcourt and 104/of our 114 came from our starters.

Bench: 10-10-4 in 27 minutes. Mostly they spelled our starters and played with them.
Osman 3-4-3 in 27 minutes. Off shooting night, 1-6, 1-5 from 3.
Lopez 0-0-0 in 5 minutes. Mostly he bodied Nurkic. He drew 1 maybe 2 fouls from him.
Okoro 3-3-1 with a block and a steal in 21 minutes.
Wade 4-3-0 in 18 minutes. Welcome back! 2-3 FG

Mitchell highlights. I like the 4 point play!

I really think tonight was an example of our big 4 at our best.

Garland as the maestro.
Mitchell as the scorer
Mobley as the do it all part perimeter part interior elite defender of doom. He can play a lot better offensively though.
Allen as the dominant interior presence.

Full game highlights:

Nice job by the bench as Wade was a +17 in 18 minutes, Cedi a +17 in 27 minutes, and Okoro a +16 in 21. They combined for just 10 points but they were doing good things out there.

The only reason the Blazers broke 90 points was they hit 42% of their 3's. Normally they hit 29% on the road. Grant was 5-for-8.

For a minute it looked like the Cavs were going to choke again. They had a 20-point lead in the 4th which was cut to 9 with a little over four minutes to go. Simons got hot from deep. But Stevens hit two free throws followed by two stops and two buckets and that was the game.

The Cavs shot 55.4% from the field and 44.4% on 3's. They ran their offense beautifully. They're getting better at it, in my opinion. The gears are meshing better. The only quibble I have is the 16 turnovers. They should keep it at about 12 - three per quarter.

Garland was a +26 and dished out 12 assists. Mitchell had 34 and Allen with 24 and 13. Mobley seemed to be struggling but still ended up with a respectable 10 points, 12 boards, 3 assists, and 3 blocks.

Cedi's shot was off (1-for-5 on 3's), but he was still a +17.

Good win against another team that is over .500. We were fortunately Dame was out but we were missing Love, LaVert, and Rubio so it's a wash.

Four straight wins, 3rd best record in the league, 3rd in offense, 3rd in defense, 1st in point differential.

Boston has best record @13-4. Cavs responsible for 50% of their losses!

Need to play better on the road but backcourt starting to sync and team is gelling, so wins will follow. Dammit, I’m optimistic.
