Mobley with another 6 assist night.
Mobley still needs strength added to increase his long term scoring potential. He needs to keep working the jumper and the FTs (and he neeeds more game opportunity as well..more touches equal more FTs…and more plays called for him to shoot jumpers from 15 feet to corner threes)
The shooting and interior play are much further along than the dribble game that he’s wanted to show off. But one thing that has been unlocked a lot this year has been Mobleys passing. The kid has excellent vision for his size and position. Such a high IQ player and passer. As the scoring and shooting comes along with more time and experience and volume and as he becomes more physically intimidating…the passing is always gonna be there.
If he was a 1 or 2 option on a worse team he would already be probably like 18/10/4.
But he has to split screen and roll time with Allen, he plays in an interior quagmire a lot with Allen and the jumper isn’t 100% there yet…and we’ve had 0 spacing at the 3 for 90% of the season.
But the kid keeps putting up these 5.6.7 assist games even with limited touches….probably could score 18-20 during these games but is making the right play over and over. And he’s also been struggling with ankle/knee soreness for a big portion of the year. I think the all star break will rejuvenate him and he will close the season very strong…I feel the same about Garland.hopefully neither get a new injury before then.
Mobley has developed offensively this year. But people are killing him because he hasn’t become a knockdown shooter or hasn’t become a dominant post player or hasn’t supplanted two two elite offensive guards and an all star center as a clear top 2 option. He’s option 3.5, he’s a defensive star, but he’s going to be just a great player for many years.
His jumper may not be there every game, all game but he’s hit like 3-4 super clutch threes and now added a game winning middy. That shows growth and confidence. He is too talented and works too hard for that to not to become money.
