Game Thread | Game #43 | Cavs @ Trail Blazers | Jan. 12, 2023

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Seeing the Cavs outscore the Blazers by six points in Rubio's 10 minutes gives me a lot of hope that once Ricky can play 20 minutes the Cavs will be a significantly better team than they are now. It will allow JBB to reduce Garland's and Mitchell's minutes so they will be fresher and even more effective in their minutes on the court. And we're still waiting on Dean Wade.

Props to JBB for going with his closing unit of Allen, Mobley, LeVert, Garland, and Mitchell for the last six minutes. They put LeVert on whoever the opponents' best wing scorer is and let Garland and Mitchell handle the offense with Allen and Mobley defending the paint. It's working pretty well except when LeVert decides to foul 3-point shooters.

By the way, Philadelphia lost at home to OKC (Wow!). Brooklyn, without Durant, lost to Boston and Milwaukee also lost. The Cavs are now one game out of second place.

Nah we just need to stop pairing them with Stevens or Okoro… it’s nonsensical
Ignore shit like that.

The stats and eye test shows they are both better with a spacing SF in Wade rather a clogger like Okoro or Stevens.

Although Okoro is slowly having some moments. But Wade is a big key to success. And he has a setback, go figure.

SF remains the team's biggest hole.

Thanks. Whew! We're ahead of #2, Miami.

I think with Love's decline, a backup PF/C is more concerning to me, Fake Deal.

Two Cavs in one play on the top ten, but they're not our usual suspects. Who are they and how do they rate with the NBA editors?

Just watched the game. Wow. Night and day. A healthy Rubio is worth triple what we’re paying him.

It all came together last night. :celb (15):

We saw Mobley step it up defensively. Hit most of his FT’s. Stayed aggressive on offense without forcing it.

We saw Okoro do a solid job on Lillard. He didn’t rack up dumb fouls (terrible call by the refs on the one in the 2nd half that gave Lillard 3 FT’s). We saw Okoro get rebounds and push the ball up the floor on his own. This is where he can really give the opposing defense problems. And he hit a clutch three.

Ricky looked like he didn’t miss a beat. Made a entry bounce pass to JA that looked like a regular pass but was such a good angle that it created an easy lefty layup for JA. No one else on our team could have made that pass.

JA didn’t look worn out at the end of the game. Neither did the guards.

LeVert guarded Lillard the last few minutes. I was not feeling good about that, but he did a good job and didn’t foul. The Cavs finally forced the ball out of Lillard’s hands towards the end of the 4th quarter. I mean Josh Hart is out there. I would have totally ignored him standing at the 3pt line. Lillard was cooking.

We just had a different intensity last night. Not a coincidence with Ricky being back.

Another highlight video. This one shows how well Mitchell and Garland worked together in this game.
