I only buy Lum-Tec watches. I personally enjoy trying to keep my money somewhat local. That said, I only own 2 as I'm not in the habit of dropping a few hundred every time a shiny new watch is released.

I bought one of those nets that catches beard trimmings by suction cupping to the mirror. It is awesome. No more little hairs all over the sink.

Bought some wireless earbuds because I was getting a new phone and was seeing if I could do without the headphone jack.

I have to say, they are really nice. When I am in the lab I am not getting shit all over my headphones or accidentally ripping them out of my ears. I can also charge my phone while listening and it is great. That is probably the best thing about it. I really thought wireless headphones would suck, but they are the best phone accessory I have ever had at this point.

I love watches.

One can find some gems if one knows where to look.

I got this Pavel Buhre homage watch. During the Russian Empire years, they made the watches for the Czar. The Czar would often present these award watches to high ranking officers and other notables.

After the Revolution, Buhre fled to Switzerland and set up shop. They made this commemorative edition in the 90s I think. 150 total.

It is gold-plated solid sterling silver with a fancy finished ETA 6498-2 movement.

The movement itself sells for around $500-$600 for the high finish variants. New sterling pocket watches are being made by less than Swiss brands hocking Chinese movements for $1300. So this watch is worth about $2K.

I got it for $250.

They do look beautiful and I'm sure they are of high quality. Right now it's more than what I would spend on myself and more than what I would ask for as a gift (which is what my current nice watch was, a gift from wifey).

I got an Invicta through a work rewards program years ago. I can't find a jeweler who can get the backing plate off to replace the battery. I just wear it dead.

The bracelets can be easily replaced, even at home with some tweezers. There are videos on YouTube that can walk you through the process.

There are many after-market bands of all kinds available on Ebay and other places.

You can't find anyone to fix it? That is odd. Do you have any clock repair specialists in your area?

What about Invicta customer service... Lol. Nevermind.

It is entirely possible that, like most Invicta owners, you are simply screwed.


My Story With Invicta:

Back before I knew much about watches, beyond that I really liked how chronographs looked, I was given an Invicta diving watch for Christmas from my Aunt.

It looked really cool: stainless steel case and bracelet, rotating numbered bezel for diving purposes. Nice black face with silver faced chronograph stuff.

But then... I wore the watch into the shower, which should not have been a big deal, it being waterproof to 300 meters. About 10 minutes later after my shower, I noticed that crystal was all fogged up from moisture, from the inside. It then stopped working a couple days later.

Invicta refused to honor the warranty because I showered with it and that it isn't completely waterproof and showering is beyond the scope of work for the diving watch...

And you will see on Amazon, many, many similar stories about the watches and the customer service. There business model is fraud.

Leather all the way. I'm not a bit fan of metal bands. You could even go canvas. I like the rubber strap on my "active" watch though.

This is a super popular, entry-level automatic. I have one but somehow the second hand fell off and I never got it fixed. But a lot of people get a handful of bands and swap them out on this watch...leather, canvas, NATO style, etc.

I also hate hate hate giant watch cases and this is relatively small at 37mm.

Every time I shave I think about how there should be an invention to get rid of beard trimmings easily. Didn't know anything like that was out there.

Also, what kind of wireless headphones did you get? I really wanted to get some wireless ear buds for awhile now. Probably will ask for it for Christmas.
