Get Excited Somewhere Else: John Dorsey

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Ron Wolf front office tree has produced some serious fruit.

Five current GMs from the Wolf tree.

Seahawks John Schneider
Browns John Dorsey
Colts Chris Ballard
Chiefs Brett Veach
Packers Brian Gutekunst

Three other former GMs
Ted Thompson
Scot McCloughan
Reggie McKenzie

Feels like Elliot Wolf, Scott Fitterer, Trent Kirchner could all get GM gigs within the next year or two.

You’re a serious fruit.

No statistical proof that these guys are any better than other GM. Show me evidence otherwise and I'll gladly change my mind. It's all recency and confirmation bias until then.

"Not being any better than other GMs" is certainly a better situation than the GMs who have been "consistently worse than other GMs," which is what Browns have been subjected to for basically all of the last 20 years.

I say "basically" because Tom Heckert, RIP, and Savage were at times competent enough for the first category, for all their faults.

The first category is more or less as good as you're going to get over time with drafting. Even Ozzie/Belicheat/Kevin Colbert have not been able to consistently "beat the odds" every year on drafting, when you look closely at some of the headscratchers they've made. The key is to not consistently make more headscratchers than everyone else.

You can largely blame the last 20 years on how so few of the first category want to work for either an absentee like Jammies or a meddling doofus like Haslam; in that sense it's a miracle that we got Dorsey. The other reason is how we got set up to fail when we came back on the short timetable in 99.

Nice interview that focuses on current cap situation and the importance of building around Baker now via The Ringer.

“Football is important here, and it shows you: Who better deserves to have the hope of winning than the Cleveland fan base of the last 20 years? After what they’ve had to endure.”

They’ve had to endure a lot, and now they get to watch a very crucial three years: the last inexpensive years of Mayfield’s career.

Baker will make 10.4 his last year of the current contract. You better believe he is getting a 30 million raise in 3 years if Wilson is making 35 mill today.

Seems like he doesn’t have the eye for offensive linemen and kickers. Huge problem in my opinion, that’s going to cost us games. I’m a little concerned he’s going bomb our cap space as well which in return will make us cut players we probably shouldn’t. I’ll give him credit though, he does have an eye for guys with records.

Just gotta hand Baker a blank check, close your eyes, and hope he doesn't hit you up for everything.
