Get Excited Somewhere Else: John Dorsey

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just gotta hand Baker a blank check, close your eyes, and hope he doesn't hit you up for everything.
While most would agree with that, even I to an extent...........i hope Baker is smart enough to see that once the QB gets "paid", most teams don't contend again for a while if at all.

I'm greedy and have endured, like so many other Browns fans, years of incompetence. I want a sustainable 20 year period of contention.

So...Real Football Players (tm)...eh John?

Jury is still out, I know. But right now would you rather have:

2019 1st
2019 3rd
Peppers
Zeitler

or

Beckham
Vernon

I was excited about Beckham, but it appears we have no real idea on how to use him or scheme to get him open. Meanwhile, Vernon has yet to do much of anything. Maybe he helps free up Garrett, but probably not.

It’s starting to look more like there was a major miscalculation on how ready this team was to compete.

Going into this season with Robinson and Hubbard as the tackles, again, was another major miscalculation, borne of arrogance and hubris by him and Freddie that they could turn those shitbags into a decent line.

Go get Trent Williams, buddy boy!

The problem with going in to the season where it is perceived as a win now roster is that you cannot realistically acquire meaningful talent if something goes wrong, because of the price a team is going to ask for that talent. That’s particularly why I think we are just what we are.

Just look at the Tunsil trade and Houston being held over a barrel, it will be no different for us. Washington stinks, Williams hasn’t been playing and isn’t being paid. They just have no motivation to trade him for less than their asking price, which will be high.

We potentially flushed the interior of our line for a luxury player and IMO, there won’t be a way to fix it until the off-season. Maybe you can patch together a depth piece but we would have to mortgage serious future assets for someone who is a difference maker and I’m not sure how comfortable anyone feels doing that or how smart it would be.

At the beginning of the year I likely would’ve said yes, but at this point I’m not certain this even fixes our issues on offense. Interior pass rush has been a bigger issue on the whole to be honest.

It appears to be more scheme, play calling, and Baker’s decision making. I can’t clearly say Williams solves any of those problems.

Williams is 31, has missed a combined 15 games the past 4 season, and is going to want a big new contract. No way I’m trading what is trending to be a top 10 pick for that.

We may still not be great, and the 2nd half of the schedule might end up as easy at is in right now on paper, but I seriously doubt we end up drafting top 10.

The jury is still out. I think the thought was solid: last year w Freddie, Mayfield barely got hit. If we kept it bunched, then it really helps to have an outside threat drawing a double or getting 1-on-1 coverage. If we spread out, there’s Juice inside with Higgins and OBJ out wide, and Njoku/Chubb on the field as well.

We have a very highly regarded OL coach who has turned late round picks into good starters.

We made a trade to get an NFL all pro for our QB who broke the rookie TD record despite not playing all year.

Peppers would look excellent for this type of D. He is the third linebacker or 5th DB on any given play. But, we had to give to get.

Vernon has disappointed, but let’s see how the year plays out.

A bigger disappointment is Baker. He simply hasn’t been at all like last year. The bye week should help.

For me, I have Freddie as the biggest disappointment. I think this is part of being a rookie head coach, and my expectations were too high. I believe his game management has cost us 2 games, and the penalties are incredible.

I thought we would get over the hump this year, and we still might. We were an end of half disaster against the Seahawks and with a depleted team we lost to the rams on 1st and goal.

We saw against Baltimore what a focused team can do. Baltimore isn’t amazing but we dominated, and on the road no less. We need to find consistency and gel. We aren’t playing loose: penalties, drops, picks, bad in-game coaching, and some key injuries. It seems to all happen at the worst time, costing us at critical moments.

I can’t say I see arrogance from Dorsey. I love the dude. It’s only frustrating as a fan if you are married to the Window idea, where we aren’t going to have a chance after Mayfield’s rookie contract.

We need patience as fans and we have very little. It isn’t our fault bc the pessimists have been spot on until just about 3/4 of last year.

I just want to see good football. I think we will have a helluva post-bye run, but it might start after the Pats game. Like I don’t even mind if we lose, but we’d better be close. Just play good football. I don’t want to be outschemed and the players have to make plays.

Let’s just take it a game at a time and support the team. Enjoy the games and if you don’t, turn the game off and go mow your lawn.

Problem with all of this is that with this cold snap the lawn mowing isnt realistic.

I saw the arguments about Sashi vs Dorsey have heated up again and it’s honestly funny to me because I don’t even think the 2 sides really disagree that much

Dorsey supporters mostly agree that Sashi stockpiled an unprecedented amount of assets for Dorsey to inherit, selected what may end up being the best defensive player in franchise history, found many other quality players, and left the team with unprecedented rollover cap

Sashi supporters mostly agree that Dorsey has spent like he has unlimited rollover cap, actively weakened the offensive line after a record setting rookie year from Baker, selected Chubb, a QB who has had a very discouraging second season, and 2 DBs who can’t stay on the field, and pretty much nothing else. He’s hired what is looking to be the worst man for the HC job

Pretty Much everyone agrees everyone just argues over wording

Annually, teams are against the cap & it doesn't manage to cripple their ability to sign guys they want. It is one of the more meaningless "knocks" you can put on a GM.
