Getting my kid a fish tank

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I agree with Keys. I use Flickr and the Amazon cloud to host my pics.

I used an image hosting website, like imgur. Be careful which you choose. I used tinypic from my phone and started getting pop ups afterwards. I ended up resetting my phone to factory to get rid of it, which is a bitch.

Thanks for the info. Not worth the hassle to try figuring it out since I never post pics anyways. I just figured there'd be a simple, quick way to do it that I was missing. I am shocked there isn't a way that you can just upload an image right from your phone gallery or saved photos on a computer.

So my eldest son talked me into two Glofish last time we went to the pet store. They are supremely hearty fish, but they just aren't impressive unless you buy the Glofish blacklight for the tank. It looks so good we bought two more Glofish on Sunday. See it for yourself, the best thing about the fish breed is that they only need one inch of tank space per fish while others need room to exercise.

Took cratylus' advice and did the API quickstart last week with some food.

Fish came yesterday. Went with three honey gouramis, ten neon tetra, some nerite snails, and ten red cherry shrimp. Very happy with the choices. Unfortunately two of the tetras didn't make it so I'm down to right (and I can only find seven in the tank at one time). The honey gourami were a good choice. They go all over the place and should be a good feature fish. Enjoy the shrimp the most, though. Despite being tiny, I enjoy trying to find them.

After a neon tetra die off, My kid wanted some danio for whatever reason. He thought they looked cool and he liked their speed. Got four. One died immediately and another leapt out of the tank. Fuckin things sucked. The other two are cool. I like how they dart in and out of the plants. I’ll replace the other two.

I have loved my corys. They’re fun to watch and I love how they hang out with each other and get wild every once in a while.

I’m gonna get some snails next.

Yeah I think of these neons don't make it, I'll either try Cardinal tetras (if there are a few neons left I'll probably go this route as Cardinals will school with neons) or harlequin rasboras.

@The Oi i heard a story about how Danny Ferry would buy a lot of betas and put them in a large tank to figure out who to put with the alpha. I heard he did this in Mansfield, do you have the full version of the story?

Totally should, then you can make some snail centipede jokes like this:

Also, my nerite snails seem to be reproducing in my tank despite that supposedly being rare?

Shrimp and tetra are gone. Not quite sure why on the tetra. Treated water every few days. 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite. Nitrate started at 5-10 and peaked at 40 right before a water change.

I think the shrimp became a snack for the gourami. Most were juveniles, so it makes a little bit of sense. Going to let my Java moss get a little bit bigger and then probably try again. There's a local guy selling blue dream shrimp for a couple bucks a pop. Will probably throw a 20 at him to see how more adult shrimp do with better hiding spots.

Late edit: saw two shrimp out today.

My tetras died super fast and my tank levels were perfect at the time. I think this is common. There is actually a disease specific to tetra.

Here's my update...

I went through a phase of looking at more plants and liking a lot of them. I also ordered some moss that I would have either had to pay for shipping or get a few more plants with free shipping so the price would have been the same. Easy decision. Learned I'm not very creative or artistic in designing this shit.

Got some bloodfin tetras and they're doing well. Gouramis are doing well. Still have a few red cherry shrimp and picked up some blue dream shrimp from a local guy. I think if I were to start over, I'd just focus on a shrimp tank.

I do weekly 33% water charges. Dose Excel and thrive a couple times a week.

Still enjoying it.

When you are ready to become a man, try a salt water tank.

I added two more danio and my son begged for a mickey mouse platy when we got those. So we have a school of 4 danio, a platy and three cory. The danio school at the top of the tank is really fun. The corys hang out at the bottom in kind of a family. The platy just cruises around all over the place.

Technically, the tank is probably overstocked but it’s planted and I do regular changes. That combination of fish keep that motherfucker clean and I think the bioload is pretty low from all of them. The levels test well.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My Friend had a Blue Gourami when I was a kid. It got kinda big and started eating everything in the tank. It even ended up eating his frog which was bigger than the Gourami.

He got pissed, decided he had enough and put his male Beta in to kick the Blue Gourami's ass, but sadly the Beta was eaten by Blue. Monstrous appetite, that one.

The fish were leaping out of the tank towards the end on suicide missions. Found several on the floor a few days apart dried up.

Couple got dropsy.

What a nightmare.

Ph levels were good. Put a lot of work into it. Son lost interest almost immediately.

The haters were right.
