Getting Rid of Cable- What am I missing?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
They are slowly bumping up internet prices, streaming service prices and streaming TV prices to where it going to make sense to just get cable again if you are into watching TV. I've read where you can cancel your TV/Internet and re-sign up again under your spouses name for the intro price switching back and forth every year. The only down side is you might be without service for a few days.

The prices going up has concern me. I have YouTube tv and have tried almost all the streaming cable services.

The one advantage of getting just internet and a separate streaming cable service is the ability to cancel for the summer when not much is on.

Internet prices will go down once 5g home internet get implemented. T-Mobile, Dish, Verizon, and At&t will all have 5g home internet and should compete with each other in most markets. T-Mobile and Dish won't worry about cannibalizing their own wired internet services since they don't have any. Basically Dish has to push to a certain amount or get massive fines of 2.2 billion. It also has to get a decent consumer base or risk failing as a company.

I have AT&T U-Verse at the moment. My 1st year is coming to a close in mid-January, so I am guessing my bill (cable + internet) will be jumping from about $102 to $130-140, which I'm not willing to pay

I had been mostly happy with U-Verse, my only complaint is they lost the NFL Network and NFL Redzone, which is a pretty big deal for me. I'm not looking to sign another 1 year contract unless they can lock me in at what I'm paying now; but even then, I have concerns with where they are going with U-Verse.

Because of AT&T not having Redzone, I added Sling for football season as it was the cheapest option out there (besides streaming from your phone without casting available- fuck that). Pretty unimpressed with Sling's service.

Cable sucks but I value the reliability of it, which some people may find funny depending on their experience with these large companies. The Sling quality, at times, goes in and out and I hate being even 30 seconds behind those watching on cable. May end up going back to Spectrum if AT&T cannot offer me a 2nd year of service at a reasonable rate; I haven't had them at my current location so should be able to qualify for their 1st year promotion.

With cable losing subscribers, they will lose another 4% of people again this year, I think most of these cable/internet companies are going to become just internet companies. They make alot more money from internet. We have seen alot of them start to sell cell phone service and companies like AT&T are buying up more networks and production companies.

I actually think we will get some sort of a la carte service once one of the companies decides to include live sports to their streaming services. Something more than what ESPN+ is. I don't think the end cable is cable or streaming cable services. I think once Disney decides to sell ESPN directly to consumers then the shoe will fall. All these companies are gearing up for it and just cutting out the cable companies as middle men.

If more companies don't carry Redzone, I think they will have to expand the channel to sell it directly to customers. More than just the dumb mobile service one.

My guess is Disney/ABC/ESPN/Hulu is just planning to kill cable TV all together in the coming years. They just added FX to part of Hulu. They make more money from the $5.99 Hulu than any other Hulu package. If they add live ESPN and ESPN 2 to a package, it will create a domino effect and kill the middle man in cable services.

There is a decent amount of surveys that show consumers don't seem to want to pay more for tv service and they try to keep to a fix amount no mater how many options are out there. Killing cable TV is a way for them to increase their profits, especially Disney whos only cable TV service is Hulu live. At&t and Comcast/NBC have more of a stake to see cable TV survive. Live sports might be the only thing that will keep Fox and CBS/Viacom alive if cable dies, not sure how much people would pay for either of those companies packages of content if they push into streaming further.

This is huge for cord cutting. If the NBA follows suit, I will just buy league pass instead of YouTube tv when there isn't any college football.

The streaming League Pass is still terrible. International game pass is amazing tho. It's stupid.

So...sorry for not browsing through the 28 pages of content here.

What is the best option for NFL (mostly Browns) and Cavs games? Literally the only thing I want. I live in North Canton. I have a smart TV with a bunch of built in apps and built in Chromecast and AirPlay. Have been using Chromecast + free streams but it's spotty, I'd rather use something built-in to the TV. I paid for fuboTV for a month but it was spotty using Chromecast. Would be fine purchasing a Roku stick thing if needed.

Was trying to look into Sling but I can't tell if I would get FSO (might be because their mobile site is dumb and their desktop site is blocked here at work).

I second YouTubeTV. Had it 2+ years now. No thoughts of changing services. It has the channels I want plus I can watch all the Browns/Cavs/Indians games I want.

You should get FSO as part of the Blue plan. It was part of that plan the last time I had sling a couple years back. Of course ESPN isn't so you've gotta go for the full package to get everything you'd need.

My buddy hooked me up with youtubeTV for free, so I just pay for Philo for the few channels my kids want.

Sounds like YouTubeTV is it. Thanks!

Hosting the Browns game this weekend and my buddy said that he would de-friend me if my proposal to watch the game is casting an illegal stream.

Been really enjoying YouTube Tv so far.

I am really sad to hear that Sony is killing their Playstation Vue streaming service. I've admittedly never tried YouTubeTV, but in comparison to the DirectTV Now/Hulu Plus/Sling TV services, PS Vue was WAY better (especially liked the user interface with the Amazon Fire TV devices). I've had it for going on 3 years now. I think Sony's marketing department really shit the bed on this one... Why put the name "Playstation" in it rather than just calling it "Sony Vue" or something to that effect?! Literally every person that I recommended it to would ask "does that mean I have to have a Playstation to watch it?" DERP.

Oh well... looks like YouTubeTV will be my next choice based on feedback here and elsewhere. Really going to miss the smooth interface of PSVue.

I had Vue for past two years so I hear ya. Decided to end my subscription early and try out other services. Like I said, really like YouTubeTV.

You won't get FSO with Sling until they come to a new agreement with Sinclair. They have been in a contract dispute for more than 3 months. It might never happen unless Sinclair drops their asking price because Dish/Sling saw an uptick in subscribers over the time they didn't have FSO and the other regional sports channels across the country owned by Sinclair.

If you don't have an antenna, you can get one and get Browns games for free. I think having an antenna is a good backup just in case you internet or streaming service goes out.
