Getting Rid of Cable- What am I missing?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This makes little sense to me. Isn't one of the key benefits to the other streaming services that you don't have a contract and that you can cancel anytime?

May as well get one of AT&T's cable and internet bundles if you're willing to pay $60/month for streaming.

I think At&t said they will stop selling Uverse in markets they sell At&t tv. Also there is rumors that At&t is trying to spin off or sell off DirecTV. They might see At&t tv as their new cable service going forward. Either way though I think it's pretty much doom to fail.

I think what they don't understand is people don't want contracts and being charged for every little thing.

Streaming services are becoming confusing. Not one single stream service offers everything I need like DTV does.
Luckily for me, DTV caved into my demands and I now have a $125 bundle for $40 for the next 12
Months and free Ticket Max.
Now, I can stop researching and just enjoy what I want all in one place and not worry about upgrading my cable speed.

I switched to Sling for the month. The last time I tried it about 2 years ago the picture quality was terrible. They seem to improved it alot. For me it looks just as good as YouTube TV now. There is a slight reduced quality when you start a channel but it bump up quickly and the initial quality isn't as bad as DirecTV now was, which was almost unwatchable until it bumped up like 30 second into watch that show or station.

The one ESPN stream is annoying and I tried to use the ESPN app as a work around for 2 stream but it kicks the other stream off after about 2 minutes. The user interface is decent, better than Directv now, but can be annoying from time to time. I wish the 3 day playback was on every channel, it was annoying that AMC doesn't have it.

Lastly I hope that they work out a deal to get the fox sport regional channels back. I could see myself switching to Sling blue for the couple months when football ends and just the NBA is on.

PlayStation Vue is shutting down in January. They tried to sell it off but couldn't find a buyer. I tried it for a little bit a couple years ago and I thought it had a good interface. It also worked properly with little glitches, it was up there with Hulu live and YouTube tv. I think the biggest problem was initially it only really worked with PlayStations and they never were able to shake that myth as they added devices.

Well fuck. I loved it and have had it for a couple years now. God dammit. It’s back to the drawing board I guess? Any suggestions? Loved all the sports options.

I have YouTube tv and I like it. I've had sling and DirecTV now. DirecTV now was by far the worse and it seem like AT&T is trying to phase it out for there other streaming services.

I could have probably lived with Sling but they have yet to reach a new agreement for the Fox regional sports networks so it's out of the question for me if I can't get the Cavs.

I know people who have Hulu live and they don't seem to complain about anything. I might switch to try it at some point. The only thing that I know I won't like about it is that you can't fast forward thru commercials with their DVR.

Both Hulu live and YouTube tv don't offer redzone which I would think about subscribing to if available but I can live without with how much NFL is on all the time.

I'm actually surprised that someone didn't come in to buy PS Vue instead of trying to build their own streaming service from the ground up. It seems like had built a solid system which is half the battle. Another company that owns more TV networks could fix the pricing and advertising side.

There’s just too much shit coming out now. @Jack Brickman I’ve noticed you watch movies and tv via downloading. What do you use? If I went that route what do you do for live sports?

For movies and TV shows I just use a torrent site. There are a ton of them out there. Find the one you like best and use it.

For live sports, I used to use reddit streams. The NBA one got shut down, and the NFL one basically moved to a non-reddit site assuming they would be shut down as well. You can find the link to the site on reddit NFL Streams, though.

When that gets shut down, I'll just have to find something else. Lots of people post individual stream links on this site, by the way. You can usually ask for a stream in game threads and someone will come through for you.

I usually just send the stream to my TV via my Chromecast.

The only major downside is that sometimes streams die, and sometimes you can't find streams for certain events, although it's not really an issue for NFL or NBA games since interest in those sports is very high. Although when a stream dies there are usually a dozen others available, so you just have to get up, go to your computer, and find a new one real quick. I've been pretty lucky and never had a stream go out during a crucial moment, but that's always a risk too.

As for me, I never had cable after moving out of my parents' house at age 22. My first roommate had it for a year but it wasn't something I signed up for, and after I had my own place I never saw the need. I have a Firestick with Kodi on it here that does its job perfectly https://www.firesticktricks.com/

So its interesting that this thread is pretty much totally dead. For those of you that have completely cut out one of the big cable providers do you think it was worth it?

Im thinking of cutting the cord at the end of the month when my direct TV contract expires (ive had it for 6ish years now). Its just hard to justify having it when I probably spend less than 8 hours a week watching cable. Everything me and my wife watch is Amazon/Netflix/HBOGO.

My worry is sports and breaking news. Im not in the cleveland area so I would pay extra for any cleveland sports anyway. But it is nice to just be able to turn on ESPN, CBS or whatever and watch a game

I think it’s worth it. Plenty of other options out there in the streaming world. I’ll be trying YouTube TV after this month. I had PlayStation Vue which I loved, but they’re doing away with it.

The subreddits themselves are getting shut down, but all the sites they linked to are still up. I still use the main one by just going to their site directly.

I've had Youtube TV for 2 years and I really like it. Has everything I'd like to watch. The cost is probably equal to the introductory period you have with DirectTV or Spectrum but you don't have the rate hikes in years 2 & 3 like those other guys.

They are slowly bumping up internet prices, streaming service prices and streaming TV prices to where it going to make sense to just get cable again if you are into watching TV. I've read where you can cancel your TV/Internet and re-sign up again under your spouses name for the intro price switching back and forth every year. The only down side is you might be without service for a few days.

Personally I would like to be out of market and have the option to get rid of cable and just get team league pass. I would just get a fire recast tv to connect to my antenna for a DVR for broadcast shows. That would give me more than enough content with Netflix and rotate the other streaming services.
