Gilbert wants LARRY BROWN???

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
There is a few coincidenses with the players that fall out of favour with Larry Brown. Currently it is Delfino and Darko. Both players have fallen out because of there work ethic. Darko has not earned time because he hasn't worked hard for it. He seemed to assume that being 2nd pick was enough. More to it then that. Delfino because of his experience in Europe did not want to be treated as a rookie. He too has been accused by many in the organisation as lacking application. Good on Brown for standing firm there. LeBron rubbed Brown badly straight away with him being late for training and he was discliplined. Again, no gripes on Brown. In phili he controlled the volatile Iverson as anyone could humanly possible. Larry Hughes too was a problem child early on. Thought he was better then he reallly was. Its only the past two seasons that he has finally got it.

Larry Brown is a professional who wont take shit from young whining players who have their head up their own arses. He demands respect, and he gets this from the strong players. From here comes success. Maybe our Cavalier's are to weak minded for Brown.

Larry Brown the coach and Larry Brown as GM are 2 different things. I don't want the instability and sudden changes on how he feels about a player at the GM position with the Cavs. There were stories over the years that Brown would want to get rid of almost everyone on his team at some point during seasons he coached. GM's with the teams he coached had to take control and talk him out of wanting to do certain moves and get rid of guys. I don't think you can have someone who's so volatile when it comes to how he feels about a player.
Brown is also always looking at his next job as soon as he takes a new job. The Cavs need a strong stable GM who is committed to building a team for the long term.

Bill Livingston in the Plain Dealer had an interesting column on Brown a week or so ago. He called him "Larry Blameless" in the column, writing how Brown is always willing to take credit when things go well but places blame on others when they don't go as well.

It takes a different mentality and attitude to be a GM than to be a coach. GM's have to have more of a long term view while coaches always just look at the present.

does ben wallace ring a bell?

Ben has good work ethic and isn't a young whining player.

Larry Brown the coach and GM are two separate entities!
Joe Dumars bought in Ben Wallace not Larry Brown.

He also had nothing to do with Indiana as well when he was done there: Donnie Walsh did all the wheeling and dealing

And Karma you draft a raw SG one year out of college and then dump him two years later: not a good move. This isn't a Wagner situation, Hughes showed promise. He also conssitently wasted cap space on old retreads like Derick Coleman, Kukoc, Mutombo. I don't want him any where near the GM spot, he will get the Cavs better for a short 1-2 run that would leave us in big hole to get out of once he leaves after a short stint. Yes he'll be gone 2-3 years mark my words if he ever becomes the Cavs GM

Now if Brown wants to coach that a different scenario.

You are going to hear all sorts of crazy rumors untill someone is hired. So i suggest everybody take these radical rumors with a grain of salt.

You bring Larry Brown in and you can watch Lebron wave goodbye after what Brown did to him at the Olympics.

Edwin

I caught a story from Philly on Hoopshype.com that said Brown laughed when asked about the Cavs rumor so hopefully there's no truth to it.

More news about this again. I seriously don't like this. If Brown becomes GM we could seriously LOSE Lebron. This is a really stupid move by Gilbert IMO:

Quote:
• Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert has met with Detroit Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars several times recently. Could they have been talking about how the Cavaliers want to get Larry Brown out of the three years left on his coaching contract? Insiders insist Gilbert wants Brown to be his new general manager and is really hoping to convince him to coach as well, even though Brown has been reluctant. One high-ranking source reports that Brown wanted to come to the Cavaliers two years ago but desired the coach and general manager titles. Then Jim Paxson was still in place and had just signed a new contract. Brown ended up doing just fine in Detroit.

This could get complicated. Make no mistake whatsoever, James and Brown have a badly damaged relationship following the Olympics, and those close to him report it hasn't improved. Even though Brown actually probably helped James defensively, his refusal to play him created problems that will be difficult to heal. That is going to be a major issue if Gilbert attempts to follow through with his plan.

I actually like Gabriel and I would be OK with him. He got screwed by the Hill injury but you can't predict this stuff

Quote:
• Of all the available general managers with experience, former Orlando Magic boss John Gabriel might be the best candidate to replace Paxson. He successfully managed the Magic in the wake of Shaquille O'Neal's departure and made big deals to get Tracy McGrady and Grant Hill, which made him look like a genius until Hill was injured. He was named the NBA's executive of the year in 2000 and had a mostly successful eight years until being demoted last year.

I dont want Larry Brown in a joint role at all. I dont particulary want him either. All I have said is that there would be plenty worse candidates around. You guys talk of a two year run like it is a bad thing. I'd give my left ball to see Cleveland have two runs at the finals. You guys expect just because we have LeBron we will automatically win championships and have some 10 year run at the top. There are many hurdles, and one would be to have a coach and or GM strong enough to bench him for poor play. LeBron is a tough kid, but he has played for coaches who have let him run a free ride. Larry had the luxury of not having to do this in the Olympics, especially after the discliplinery action for his tardiness. LeBron has alot of growing up to do, and a stronger person at our helm would not go astray. As important as LeBron is, we are the Cleveland Cavalier's, not the LeBron Cavaliers.

Meh, I see what you're trying to say but great NBA teams with very few exceptions championship teams are built around terrific players (Magic, Bird, Jordan, Hakeem, and Shaq). Larry Brown was not an exceptional GM by any strecth and he has a terrible penchant for building his squads for 2-3 years till he leaves. Lebron would make us a contender for the next 10-15 years I'm not willing to lose him in misguided attempt to bring legitimacy to an owner's purchase of a team

frankly, would Larry Brown be considered such a genius except for the help of Ainge and Atlanta? No, it was Dumars pickup of Rasheed Wallace (a top 10 talent easily who languishin in Portland. This is the guy who when teamed with a good coach nearly beat a PRIME Shaq/Lakers) that made Detroit this can't do no wrong and "play the right way team". No the NBA is a player's league and Lebron is a once in a generation player. Magic Johnson got one coach fired and played no defense when he first came into the league. If it came down to coach or Lebron. For right now (considering Lebron has not done anything remote to make us consider he'll not become great) there would be no way in hell I would pick a GM over keeping Lebron
