We’re recording the podcast today. Post BK and GS, it feels like the board could afford some live discussion.

Call in to 216-282-6289 to state your position on superstar Dylan Windler. We’ll talk live with the best calls.

He needs to do whatever Cedi did in the off-season to improve his 3-point accuracy. He also needs to speed up his release and develop a 3-point shot off the dribble.

Once they respect his 3-point shot it will give him opportunities to pump fake and blow-by, but then he'll need a consistent floater in the lane since he's not a strong finisher at the rim.

He also needs to be able to knock down a pull-up jumper at the elbow.

He needs a lot of focused practice on his offensive game with the ball. His rebounding is good.

I know people want Windler to get some minutes over some other guys, but he doesn't deserve them if he isn't gonna even try to do anything with them (especially on the offensive end). He feels invisible out there to me, and to be honest he basically has been. ONE shot in 30 minutes over the last two games just isn't going to cut it, he's got to show some signs of aggressiveness to justify his minutes

I remember during the Summer League when Mobley was getting blasted for not getting any rebounds, and it appears that was by design, with the coaches telling him not to get in there and mix it up. It less him than how he was being coached.

So I wonder how much of the hesitancy of both Okoro and Windler to shoot is due to how the staff has defined their roles. "Play tough defense" "keep the ball moving" "feed Mobley", etc.. I wonder because I have yet anyone on the coaching staff -- and admittedly, maybe I've missed it -- make public statements about those guys just needing to shoot more. And before my shit gets jumped on this, I'm sure they're told "if you're open, take the shot", but that's almost uselessly general guidance. Is there an emphasis being placed on them putting up shots? "We keep telling Dylan that he's got to shoot more, and that his minutes are going to depend on it", etc.. Because it sure as hell doesn't look or sound like that's been the messaging from the coaching staff, and that they have a different vision of offensive priorities.

One shot in 30 minutes isn't on Windler. There are times when he's open and he's not getting the ball back because Garland and Rubio are trying to do too much. If you look at the Cavs IR, we're at a point where *deserve has nothing to do with it.* Valentine is the only healthy player you could even make a case for and his defense is so bad that if he's on the court for a couple of minutes he just gets hunted. I don't know when Allen and Lauri are due back, but if that answer isn't really soon, then I think the Cavs should probably start dialing back Rubio's minutes, concede a few losses, and play Windler even more.

Oh the lack of shots definitely isn't all on Windler, but regardless of other variables I would just like to see a SG who can actually shoot the 3 at a good % take more than one shot in two games. Like we all know Okoro is struggling terrible on the offensive end, but I respect him for at least trying to be aggressive/take open shots. We've all been wanting guys like Okoro and Garland to take more shots on offense, I think we should want the same thing from Windler if we actually want him to make an impact on the floor.

Opposing teams are routinely helping off of Okoro because he can't shoot as well as Windler. That's why it's really important to get the ball to Windler when they do help off of him. Moreover, we just saw how off the ball action can help to free up a guy like Curry. But if the Cavs just plant Windler in the corner, he's going to have fewer opportunities.

Agree with basically everything you said here. Honestly this season I just want to see Windler take a step forward offensively whether it's being more aggressive getting to the basket or finding a mid-range shot, something that he can add other than taking threes. You're right though, in order to do that, the team has to put him in spots to succeed, and planting him in the corner for entire possessions isn't gonna do that

One of the things that's important to understand about aggressiveness with players who aren't dribble-drive guys, is that you actually need to run plays for them. Like, Windler can't just decide screw this, I'm going to cut into the lane regardless of what play is being run or he could end up actually doing more harm than good. I'd like to see the Cavs design some action to get him open.
