Never would have thought I'd get into it. My g/f is a big golfer and very good. She'd been suggesting that I start playing for a long time.

It took me till this year but...I'm officially into it. I'm not very good but I've been playing a lot of good courses, reading a lot of good books and it's already starting to help me in the business world.

Overall, I'm diggin it!

Anyone got any good books they've read, courses you'd suggest we play or anything else on the topic?

Yeah I highly recommend...

"So You Suck At Team Sports" by John Johnson

I'll recommend back, "So you're immature and lack self-discipline" by Hank Balmouth.

In Orlando?

Bay Hill is outstanding.
The Ritz also has an awesome course, can't remember the name...might just be Ritz Golf Club.
I played 36 at Orange County National..it was very good...they have 45 holes I think.

Don't know of any books, if I were you I'd go to a golf school for 3-5 days. They'll break apart your swing and build you a better one. It will do wonders for your short game which is where you can shave the most strokes. There's only about 10,000 to choose from in your state.

Golf is tremendous for business. I took 15 guys to play at Firestone earlier this summer. It's already paid for itself 10-fold. I have clients that I know I will never lose because I take them to good golf courses...and to cavs games.:chuckles:

Well I love to play golf any chance I get but I'm not that great at it. I have Tigers Woods' How I Play Golf book which honestly didn't do too much except it shows some tricky little moves you can do to save some strokes.

Canteberry (SP?), it's in Ohio.

Just played Stoneybrook and Magnolia Plantation. Both were very nice if you're ever playing out here. We have played Orange County and there was like NO water left on the course because we've had such a dry year. That's where they do Q school I hear.

My g/f played at the Ritz and said it was great.

Reading Harvey Penick's Little Red Book right now and then just a regular golf instruction manual. I'm between 95 and 115 now which sucks but...

I just wanna get under 100 regularly. That'll be good enough for me.

I was kidding sheesh...I actually went golfing for the first time last week..before I had just done putt putt.

Golfing is awesome. I love it. I try to hit the courses at least once a week.

Some advice-
For most golfers just starting out, there is no reason to even carry a driver in the bag. The occasional crushed straight drive feels good for the ego, but 8-10 other times per round it's a hook or slice which requires a chip to get it back into play...if not a penalty stroke. Golf isn't about hitting the ball far, it's about accuracy. If you arent doing it already, try playing a round just using an iron you are comfortable with off the tee. See what it does to your score.
At the driving range it's the same problem. Most golfers take out the big dog and swing as hard as they can. They put balls down as fast as they can and just start pounding balls. When practricing, each ball should be addressed with the same routine you use on the course. When you are on the range each ball should also always have a target. Spend more time aiming for the 50-125 yard flags than you do for the 250 yard flag.
On the putting green you should also be practicing putts from the 3-12 foot range. Practicing 30 footers doesn't give much return on your investment....pros rarely make them.

I actually just did this for the first time at Magnolia Plantation yesterday. You're completely right. My aim was much better and using the 5 iron forced me to play a more conservative game. I'm starting to realize that conservative= effective. One the first 4-5 holes I played very well using that strategy. Then I became a little more erratic as I started swinging with my arms instead of my hips.

Again...my g/f has been harping on me about the exact same things at the range. :chuckles: You are both right on this as well. My prob at the range has been that I get frustrated with a couple swings in a row and just start pounding the rest of them with a negative mentality.

You golfers are all the damn same. :chuckles: Thanks for the advice. Though I am new at the game, I know enough to understand that these are great tips.

Im not very good at golf, but I can murder the ball and I keep it pretty straight for the most part.

I can drive 300+ yards consistently. I am ok on the green, but I struggle with my irons. But I dont have a good set of clubs either, I am pretty tall at 6'4 and it's very hard for me to bend and get low and stay low with my knees bent to use my irons.
