If they're expecting AV to be the PF of the future, why not keep Gooden this year and then let him walk next year, have AV start and sign a cheap back-up? I think we need this year to see if AV can improve offensively. I agree that Haslem would be cheaper than re-signing Drew, but are we doing that to allow AV more playing time? Then switch him to start in '06-'07 and use Haslem as a backup?

Long-term goals....very intriguing. Another chance for Ferry to prove he has a plan.

The thing is all we need at power forward is a role player. A body who will bang in the paint, rebound and play good team defense. We dont need a star at all.

Al Harrington : bad defender, tweener.
Amare Stoudemire : Sun for life
Antonio Davis : too old and slow for the 4.
Nikoloz Tskitishvili : Bust.
Ben Wallace : Detroit wont let him go. Will cost too much.
Chris Wilcox : Option but he is not a character guy.
Jarron Collins : He is a center and poor rebounder.
Pape Sow : Dont know enough about.
Loren Woods : A center and headcase.
Lorenzen Wright : A center and not the banger we need.
Nene : Would be great, but we wont have the cap space.
Scot Pollard : Center, who's game has disappeared.

I see Varejao maybe as a long term 3rd big man. An energy guy off the bench who plays minutes at both front court positions. This gives him both good minutes, and he can continue to build his game changing style of play without the big concern of picking up cheap early fouls.

I take UH over Drew, for reasons I have stated in other threads.

UH has a very solid mid range shot, he runs the floor, finishes strong, and better yet, plays DEFENSE.

Wilcox would be terrific: awesome upside

haslem is better then wilcox.. at least up until this point he's been.

maybe elton is in wilcox's way-- but haslem is one on those lunchpail guys.
