Gorilla in the room: Do we now trade Love?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Some chatter Hou is pursuing Love and want the package centered around Capela.

That’s not enough, so wonder how else Hou could sweeten the pot?
Their picks are worthless and Capela does absolutely nothing for us.

Fuck Houston.

It'd have to be Capela and Gordon as the base for the salaries to work. That would clear about $14M after next season.

To make me ever think about it, I'd want:

Capela
Gordon
Hartenstein
Two future firsts (next year cannot be traded, obviously). Could even try to push for three firsts, unprotected.

Reality is there's not much of a window left for Houston and they don't have a lot of options. A vet like Love is their best bet. If they want him, you have to rake them over the coals.

Prefer not to trade Love unless the offer is one that just can't be refused.

There picks are worthless now, but who knows in 2, 4, or 6 years? If you get back several picks without protections, you don't know. Paul could retire. Harden could get hurt. I'd only take back at least two unprotected picks from them, preferably three.

I don’t know man. They might be worthless right now, but the Rockets 2022 1st could be valuable. Think about it this way: Harden would be 32-33, Paul 35-36, and Love 32-33. Love and Paul have both had injury issues as of late.

In the 20/21 season, they’d have $110 mill committed to three guys. Harden is a free agent in 2021. That would mean there’s a chance Houston would be stuck that season paying a 36 year old Paul $44 mill and a 33 year old Love $32 mill without James Harden for the 21/22 season. Sound like a recipe for disaster if you ask me.

Capela could also be flipped or part of a three team deal.

If we're looking to trade Love this offseason, the Clippers situation might be the one to keep an eye on. If they can land Kawhi, Durant, or even Klay I think they become a trade partner. Look at it this way:

Love

for

Galinari
Shai
Landry Shamet

Completely salary neutral. We end up getting out of Love's contract a couple years early. Pick up two guys in Shai and Shamet who should be good young guys on the perimeter with Sexton and Cedi.

I'like to get that Heat pick, but I have a feeling if they're giving up Shai and Shamet they'd be hesitant to put it in. I'm sure we can probably get some other pick though.

With this trade, if the Clippers renounced a few of their free agents and signed Beverly to something reasonable, this would give the Clippers Love, Beverly, Lou Will, Harrell, and Robinson, a max free agent, and about $25-$30 mill left to spin. They could re-sign some of their own guys or go out and try to add someone like Walker. Damn. Imagine trying to deal with the Kemba, Lou Will, Kawhi, Love, Harrell lineup. That's flat out nasty. I don't really know how you defend a lineup like that.

Isn't the expression "elephant in the room"?

Forget it, he's rolling.

A few thoughts on this idea. First, I doubt they'd get both Shai and Shamet in a Love deal. Second, didn't Shai want to avoid the Cavs around the time of last year's draft? It may not be true any longer (and may have never been true), but if a guy doesn't want to be here, I doubt Koby and Beilein would want him. Third, I'd want that Heat pick, bigly.

The thing is, the Cavs don't have to trade Love. They can take the position that they'll always listen to offers, and they'll pull the trigger if it's a Godfather offer ... otherwise, they can pass.

That's exactly it.

Some good offers may come in after a few teams with cap strike out. But there's no reason to move on form Love at this point. He's a vet presence and is still a very good player when he's healthy. We need to do whatever we can to keep him healthy.

I doubt they trade Shai and I'd bet they'd like to keep Gallinari. Shamet they may be willing to trade and you can roll the dice on Jerome Robinson.

But I'd need that Miami pick and I'd also want the better of the Philly/Clippers pick in 2020 (if the Philly pick conveys). Even that may not be quite enough.

Although I’m on the trade Love bandwagon, it’s hard not to admire how much of a good guy he is. He could’ve gotten paid then “suddenly” soured on management and requested a trade. It’s pretty clear him and Koby are on the same page.

Koby kept referring to a few deals on the table and about how he could determine where to trade Love in 10 minutes or something like that. That was when he was sidelined so I would hope we can get some good assets IF he stays healthy and we don’t sit him for tanking purposes.

I wonder if Love and CP3 could be in a 3 way deal between the Cavs, Lakers, and Houston. CP3 to the Lakers and Love to Houston. Not sure who the Cavs would want back from the Lakers and Houston for compensation for Love.

Houston then could use Capella and Gordon to go after someone else. Maybe get Conley if they have any assets left to offer to Memphis after dumping CP3.

The Cavs are said to be a team that might facilitate a trade of AD to the Lakers. The Lakers big chip would be the #4 pick, and some players that NO is not wild about.
Love would be much more attractive to NO and Griffin than anything on the Lakers roster.
I'm not debating whether Love is worth the #4 pick in the draft, but the Lakers MUST make this trade happen.
If we wound up with the 4th and 5th pick in the draft, who do you take?
Or do you trade them for #3?

Why would Griff want Love and Zion together? Neither can be a 5, or a 3...

But, to answer your question, I’d take Culver and Sekou, or Culver and Reddish.

I wonder if Houston will try to trade Gordon and Capella for pieces to get Love. Like if the Hawks want to get a center, #10 for Capella would be more of a sure bet than drafting someone like Jaxson Hayes.

I would think Gordon would have a decent market too. Maybe to Orlando for #16 or to Indy for #18.
