I'm old enough to be aware of the Hammer playing when I started to follow the game but young enough not to have my own memories of his play.
The 1 thing I do recall- opening a pack of cards (@1976) & finding Hank's card, then proceeding to flip out..

I hope Hank is now at peace.

Still the HR king in many eyes.

Some people actually wrote threatening letters to him as he was on the verge of passing Babe. He handled it with grace and class.

edit - Some may know I am a Math teacher. I got good at math as a kid in part by reading a lot about baseball stats and how they are calculated. Impossible to delve into the history of baseball numbers without reading a lot about Hank Aaron. Even though he retired before I was born, he still inadvertently became a childhood hero of mine.

RIP Hank

He remains a Titan of the game for his obvious greatness on the field, but also for his character, courage, humility and humanity beyond. He's lived a first ballot life.

Very sad day. He seemed like a very classy guy. I got a chance to see him play at the old stadium when he finished his career with the Brewers in the American League.
If there was a Hall of Fame for Hall of Famers, Hank would be in it.
How good was he? If you take away all of his home runs. Every one. He would still have over 3,000 hits.
Baseball lost one of the giants today.

It's sad to see the greats pass. They take with them experiences that builds the best of character in a man. I'm sure he's in a good place and he's still the HR King in my eyes. Truly a first class man.
