Harden to the Nets, Cavs part of the package

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Shameless plug here but I actually published a podcast episode on this trade in the podcast I launched with some friends last month called Brown Men Won't Jump. The episode also has a good deal of talk about how the Cavs made out in the trade, as well as discussion about the Sexland backcourt and Isaac Okoro. The podcast has a rotating cast of hosts who are fans of various teams (Sixers, Spurs, Celtics, Raptors, Knicks). It's usually pretty lighthearted though we do have some serious basketball discussion as well. I'd love any feedback anyone who listens would be willing to give (feel free to DM me).

Here's a link to where you can listen to the podcast on whatever platform you prefer (Apple, Google, Spotify, Amazon, Overcast, etc): https://brownmenwontjump.captivate.fm/listen

Or you can listen to the feed directly on our website at brownmenwontjump.com. We plan to have regular blog entries about the NBA up soon too. And if anyone is interested in talking basketball on a future podcast episode or writing a blog post about the NBA (on whatever topic), please DM me and we can see how we can make that work.

Just listened to the podcast - really good work! I like the fact your boys are fans of different teams. It provides a wider view of the trade.

Random question - did you name yourself after Anthony Carter, former backup point guard for the Heat and Knicks?

Haha I wish I had a better origin story for my nickname. “A.C.” is just my childhood nickname and nothing more than my initials.

And thanks so much for listening - I really appreciate it.

Always been one of my fav b-ball posters on this site. I’ll def give it a listen.

Celtics have a pretty stable culture and are going to keep winning. Just different situation than OKC or even Philly IMO. Kawhi left a situation like that and IMO cost himself another shot at a title.

Look, here's the fact.

There were three guys everyone said the Celtics should have traded for.

Kawhi, Butler, George.

All three left the teams that traded for them.

NOw maybe they'd have stayed in Boston...but the current evidence is on my side. Particularly with George and Kawhi, both who were on teams with good GMs and good coaches.

THen obviously, the guy they DID trade for, ALSO left.

So the question today is, knowing what I know about all of those guys, would I rather have traded for one of them and lost Brown, not knowing whether or not they would have stayed. I say no.

I dunno, in this day and age where players leave all the time, I think keeping your flexibility is probably more important than ever. Winning a title is catching lightning in a bottle, and even if you win it, the odds you'll keep winning it are lower than ever. No one stays. So if you happen to find guys who want to stay: keep them. ANd unless you know for sure a guy you're trading for wants to stay, then just don't bother unless the price is low (like Toronto and Kawhi).

Agreed. One of the most valuable posters on any sports team message board is “fan of a rival team who posts regularly because he likes the discussion.” It’s always good to get an outside perspective, especially when it’s a good one.

Yes, but the Raptors did win the Championship because they traded for Kawhi.

Anthony Davis was the guy most people talked about them trading for. He didn't leave the team that traded for him. And I'm glad they didn't trade for him. They probably would have won a ring the year Toronto did. Would Davis have left a championship team like Kawhi did? Who knows.

Yes, but the Raptors did win the Championship because they traded for Kawhi.

And for a team like the Raptors that never won one? Ok. They also didnt trade anything of major value.

For a team like Boston that has won a billion? Not worth it. Not if woild have cost Jaylen Brown.

Yes. He would have.

Theres a reason no one else even came to the table with a serious offer.

Two more players have been included in the recent NBA blockbuster trade that saw James Harden take his talents to the Brooklyn Nets. According to Keith Smith of Yahoo Sports, the Cleveland Cavaliers have now renounced the rights of Channing Frye and Ante Zizic as part of the deal.

Not that it matters but why?

I saw that, I am so glad they found it and hope it turns out to be nothing
