HBO's Watchmen - Discussion Thread w/ Spoilers thru Current Episode

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Lubeman was Petey. Confirmed on the HBO Peteypedia.

Typical Lindelof....he makes a great show only to have no idea how to end it.

How do those frozen squid have any more damage than regular hail falling from the sky at terminal velocity? Ok and how do they destroy the Millennium Clock and go right through Lady Triu, but somehow a cop car, the Manhattan Phone Booth, the Theater, and whatever crate that Sister Night was holding over her head are not impacted at all? It was just not a good ending. A great show, but a terrible ending. Like Lost.

Were there some issues? Yes, but a terrible ending? Definitely not.

I feel like The Leftovers gave me a better understanding of how Lindelof tells his stories. A lot of people hated the Lost ending, but most fans loved the ending for The Leftovers, with Watchmen getting mixed reviews. He tells epic stories on a small scale for the most part. The Leftovers focuses on a few people and usually stays within a single town. Watchmen has clear national implications but focused in on just Tulsa. I feel like the subject matters he chooses make you feel likes it's a big story even though it's character/theme oriented so when it ends on a smaller scale it can feel like a letdown.

Overall the show kicked ass and a second season would've been fine but unnecessary.

Ok you are right. It wasn't a terrible ending. But it could have been cleaner. I'm good with them stopping there. It really was a great show.

Certainly! And I totally agree on the squidfall thing. Totally inconsistent within that scene.

It wasn't perfect, the ending was a let down for me because I expected a lot.

Sad lindeloff is saying no but it means he'll say yes to something else.

The squid are much bigger than conventional hail. They are bigger than even golf-ball sized hail. Yes, they would be very destructive. I doubt Lady Theiu felt the need to armor that thing, and as a complex piece of star-of-the-art machinery, it might also be more fragile than the typical commercial building.

And I am under the impression that the ground zero of the event was targeted at the device and it wasn't as intense even 50m away.

And some of them would have been protected by the device itself blocking the hail in a certain radius.

Veidt programmed in some very specific coordinates which is accurate down to the meter even if Veidt says anyone in a five block radius would be obliterated.

But he meant people and not necessarily structures.

This. He signed a sizable deal with Warner Bros TV in 2018. If the end of Watchmen means more Lindelof work on HBO, I am for it.

FWIW, he told HBO they can make another season without him and they decided against it. Goes to show how much respect the network has for him. Although if it was a huge ratings hit, that sentiment might've changed.

It's still a shame The Leftovers was overlooked by many. Still one of my favorite TV shows of all time.
