HBO's Watchmen - Discussion Thread w/ Spoilers thru Current Episode

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I dont like this show anymore. From what ive gathered, im in the minority, but the past two episodes have been boring in my opinion..

theyve spent so much time confusing me that i dont even care anymore. Did we really need two full episodes to go away from the show to explain whats going on/what happened in the past?

Also, i cant stand angela or her story line. Its boring, great her grandfather was hooded justice, lets spend two hours reiterating that. Meanwhile lets spend 3 minutes addressing the original storyline of the show.
Just seems like things have gone away from the actual super hero shit into angela’s story, and i dont really care...

not to mention, theyve explained nearly everything and boom! Heres something else that doesnt make sense to end this episode.

Its stupid. I wanna know what happened to looking glass. I wanna hear more ab the calvary. Was two episodes of nostalgia pills really necessary?

like theres so many subplots going on and the only one theyre explaining is this stupid angela/her grandfather one.

and even when they explain shit they gotta just throw more confusing shit in there. here lets explain this, dont mind this elephant.
And angela is the worse character of all time. Shes acts like such a badass cool female. Shes so strong!! Shes tough!! Female lead!

dont you wanna know who dr manhattan is? Me: yes. Angela: silent badass walk into elevator. Audience: shes so strong!!

This show sucks now. The past two episodes have been stupid.

Making a great season finale that finally explains everything that happened in early episodes can't go back and make the original viewing of those episodes any more enjoyable. That's just a general observation, really, as I'm not watching this show.

Well I disagree with bills opinion, I'm watching and into it. My point stands on its own, just my observation

I could do without the fbi agent but I'm sure she's necessary. Watchmen seems to be convoluted and has many moving parts per Snyders work too

I'm not saying you're enjoyment is wrong, or his lack of enjoyment is right. That's going to vary between individuals. I'm just saying that if someone is frustrated by early episodes because of a perceived lack of exposition, that frustration is basically "in the books", and doesn't go away simply because the exposition was provided much later. The bottom line is that you just didn't enjoy the episodes.

Or to put it differently, most entertainment is just as much about the journey as it is the destination.

It doesn't change the enjoyment throughout, obviously.

But bits and pieces you don't like at the start or throughout end up working very well down the line sometimes.

No one likes when a series is slow. But that's writing - you have to set up the shit that happens. Storyline that are eventually interesting may need to incubate and marinate. The start of a character arc may not be the best part. Etc etc

I wouldn't have gotten to enjoy my favorite series ever (leftovers) and many people would not have gotten to enjoy the wire, etc, if they gave up on it too quickly. Whether or not someone wants to stick with it is their prerogative

Personally, I like how every episode kind of focuses on one thing. It reminds me a lot of reading the comic book, which I think is the intent. We had an episode that explained who Looking Glass was. We had an episode that followed Blake. We had an episode that focused on Will Reeves and his past (which was, imo, probably the best episode of the series thus far). Next week we'll presumably get the backstory between Angela and Dr. Manhattan.

Each episode tells an individual story while still advancing the main plot to varying degrees.

I also feel like all this back story is basically essential to the plot given how it all ties into the events of the comics.

So if the Seventh Kavalry plot is to kill Dr. Manhattan and steal his power, I have to wonder if Trieu and Reeves have their own plot to control his mind or something. I have to think the whole mind control plot they introduced last week is going somewhere. I definitely think Trieu and Reeves have another motive, else why show that conversation between them where Reeves says Angela will hate him for what he's about to do?

That's a good theory. RIP Cal :grumpy:

I don't think I've ever had less of a fucking clue where a show was going than this one. One episode left and I'm damned if I could tell you what in the blue fuck (literally, in this case) is going to happen.

Yeah I don't know how to feel if that actually really happened. He let it happen, so either it's not what it seems or he wanted it to happen. And with this show who the fuck knows. I'm really enjoying it though after being lost and unsure about it after the first couple episodes.

Any predictions for how the 7th Kavalary knows he is Manhattan?

Maybe when he saved Angela on the night 7th K killed all those cops? They didn't show it in the episode, but it seemed like that device in his head allowed for "emergency impulses", for lack of a better term, and he killed the 7th K guy who was about to kill Angela

I think the thing to remember is that, even though Manhattan can see the future, I don't know that he can change it because he's living it all at once. So even though he knows what is going to happen, it may be inevitable.
