HBO's Watchmen - Discussion Thread w/ Spoilers thru Current Episode

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
ya but it says Season Finale not Series Finale in the promo for Ep 9

Very good show. Lots to tie together in 1 hour

I think because they are leaving the door open for Lindelof or someone else to make another season. Lindelof has said this is a self-contained story and that he has no additional seasons planned as of now.

I expected there to be more discussion following last night’s episode.

Great finale. As was alluded to earlier, they provided some closure while leaving the door open for another season.

I watched it before bed last night, but I was really high and need to watch it again to properly process it. Still debating whether I loved or hated it. On the one hand, I love that they just went completely batshit crazy with this story. On the other, I can't help but think the show peaked with the Nostalgia episode and never quite got back to those heights with the subsequent ones.

I also think they structured the story a little poorly, as the first several episodes were all relatively slow-paced before some massive exposition dumps in the final few episodes. And if Lady Trieu was going to end up being the main bad guy, they really should have introduced her earlier. I don't think she appears until like the fourth episode.

Ironically, for a show based on a comic book, I thought it might have got a little too comic bookey toward the end. Also, Looking Glass ended up being pretty fucking useless in the end. Thought he'd have some sort of moment in the last episode but then he just kind of shows up and is just a spectator for the end game.

But like I said, I need to re-watch. I think I am just going to re-watch the whole series.

Agreed on Looking Glass (and Blake to a lesser extent). Neither of them really ended up playing much of a role at all in the end (apart from taking Ozymandias into custody), which was kind of lame. I really thought LG would have a bigger role, given that we hadn’t seen him for a few episodes, but all we got was a quick explanation as to what happened between then and last night’s finale.

That Lube Guy was never caught.

I really enjoyed Veidt returning to form catching the bullet and taking multiple punches without much damage.

He aged but he was still nearly super human.

The twist about the Warden was cool. Just another servant to keep him on his toes.

Lubeman was Petey. Confirmed on the HBO Peteypedia.

Typical Lindelof....he makes a great show only to have no idea how to end it.

How do those frozen squid have any more damage than regular hail falling from the sky at terminal velocity? Ok and how do they destroy the Millennium Clock and go right through Lady Triu, but somehow a cop car, the Manhattan Phone Booth, the Theater, and whatever crate that Sister Night was holding over her head are not impacted at all? It was just not a good ending. A great show, but a terrible ending. Like Lost.

Why didn’t dr. Manhattan just teleport away.

Didn't they build that cage specifically so he couldn't? They mentioned melting down those batteries that were tech created by Dr. Manhattan.

At any rate, it's pretty clear that getting captured was all part of Manhattan's plan to finally die and, presumably, transfer his power to someone who he felt would do more good with it.

I guess if he wanted to die?

However he knew the whole plan before it happened. So he could’ve gone anywhere before it happened and been fine, lay low for a while and come back.

His power doesn't work like that. He exists in all timelines at once. So even though he knows what is going to happen, for him it has already happened.

But he definitely wanted to die. He put himself in a position to be captured as part of his deal with Will that allowed Will to get his revenge on Cyclops, and then presumably left a means to transfer his powers to Angela after his death, hence the egg she finds.
