Hitting

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
BTW, Pluto's stat is not only cherry-picked, but it's also inaccurate.

Since the AS break in 2018 (not including the Twins series which makes it the 861 AB sample he quoted):
.244/.342/.465 with a 109 wRC+

Not bad considering the otherworldly slump he had in there, but also not really reflective of who he is as a player.

Ummm MLB front offices haven't looked at a batting average statistic in probably 10 years. The game is way beyond that now.....

It's cherry picking because he finished the 2nd half of 2018 in a huge slump and started the 1st half of 2019 in a huge slump and everyone knows that. He was on a tear on the bookends of those seasons....

Why isn't Pluto talking about his stats since the 2019 All Star break because, since then, he's 8th in WAR in the MLB and has a .988 OPS? Or the last two full seasons plus this one where Jose was 7th in the MLB in WAR in that timeframe.
Depending on the time frame you choose it's possible to make a hitter look average or pretty good.

The only thing that matters is what he's doing this year. His OPS+ is 133 so he's 33% better than average. It's the third highest of his career. He's maintained his numbers while the rest of the league is down in terms of hitting.

Fangraphs has his WAR at 2.1 after 47 games which includes good marks for defense and base running. Projecting that to a full season gives him a WAR of 7.2 which would be the second highest of his career.

His defense WAR would be easily the highest of his career and his base running and hitting WARs would be the second highest. Those projections are a little high because he's played 45 of 47 games and he probably would not play that many over a 162 game season. But he's still having a good year when you factor in his defense and base running.

The only issue is his Fangraphs clutch number being in the negative so he's not hitting as well in "high leverage" situations as he is in a "context neutral environment". Last I checked he was 2-for-15 with RISP and two out, but otherwise he's having one of his better seasons.
