Horror Movie Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I love horror movies and October really gets me in the mood for them, I’m actually watching Midsommar right now.

I do really like ghost themed movies the most, movies like The Grudge and The Ring. Sinister and Insidious are also favorites of mine.

I agree completely on The Thing being an all-timer. I also enjoy The Fly from that similar time period.
What did you think of Midsommar?

American Werewolf in Paris is great. The Fly reminded me of that. If you’ve seen both, you’ll know why I say that.

That howl sticks with you.

Not who you asked, but I absolutely hated it. It was very pretty, but I was bored out of my fucking mind the entire movie. It started out really dark and promising, but all of the characters were huge pieces of shit and so I didn't care when they inevitably met their ends.

Hereditary was a much better movie, even if I think it fell apart a bit at the end.

I agree with everything you said here.

I really liked nightmare 2 was different. And would rank them in the order they came out.
I liked 3.

Interesting concept, but budget limitations and the 80s diminished it.

Remakes are stupid, but if they did a new NOES series (not the 2010 remake), Dream Warriors is ripe for a really well done revision.

And also, did anyone else, even as a kid, scream at the stupid Will kid, the wizard, for running toward Freddy like that? He is a fucking wizard with ranged magic attacks, you keep your distance stupid! No one ever said "Mages and archers to the front!" It like that GOT episode where the put the catapults in FRONT of the walls and trenches.@The Human Q-Tip

The Shining, The Thing, and Human Centipede. Masterpieces of the genre.

Watching Spiral right now. Undecided as of yet whether this movie is going to be so bad it's good like a couple of the Saw movies or just straight trash like most of them. So far, it's leaning toward the latter.

Chris Rock is very, very, very unlikeable in this movie. His character is just an asshole, but doesn't bring any comedy or charm to the role like he's typically capable of. I am rooting for his death.

If anyone likes drive-in style Italian B-horror, go on Amazon prime or Shudder and watch Pieces ASAP. Pack a bowl or grab a 6 pack. You’re welcome.

Can anyone get me some shrooms or direct me on where I can get them other than horse shit? I wanna watch some of these with some shrooms in my system ffs.

If you were in Oregon, sure. De-criminalized out here. In Ohio? Go to any outdoor folk concert.

Yeah, Spiral was pretty terrible. It got moderately more interesting toward the end, but the identity of the killer was pretty predictable and it was never what I would call scary. Gross at times. A few attempts at jump scares, but those barely even register with me at this point, especially in a movie like this where you almost always know they're coming.

But I guess that comes with the territory. Outside of the original Saw, which was pretty straightforward and was mostly just two (technically three, but one is playing dead) dudes in a room, these movies basically rely on the killer being five steps ahead of everyone else at any given time and being able to set up hilariously elaborate traps in a variety of industrial settings. This one was no different.

It wasn't so bad that I regret watching it, at least after the first half hour, but I also wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless you're a huge Saw fan, in which case you'd probably get more out of it than I did.

I also think that there are a couple of things they could have done to actually make this a good movie. It either needed more Samuel Jackson to actually establish his character, or it needed an actor who was less likeable than Sam Jackson. Because it's just impossible to dislike Sam Jackson, which is why he basically never plays a bad guy any more.

Watched Army of Darkness tonight. It's a testament to how good Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell are that this movie works as well as it does. Shit budget, terrible special effects, dumb script...doesn't matter. Raimi's direction style is so perfectly cheesy and earnest and Campbell is equal parts douchebag and charismatic and it all comes together to make a wonderful, fun B-movie.

Horror is my favorite genre. I’m not sure it’s worth mentioning the classics.

Of the lesser discussed movies that you guys may never have heard of, The Shining, Exorcist and Texas Chainsaw Massacre are excellent.

FRT Session 9 is one of my favorites that a lot of people seem not to have heard of. I love slow burn psychological thrillers, and it is one. If you like the idea of sneaking into insane asylums, this one is for you.

On the other end of the spectrum is Mandy. I’ve never taken acid or killed a zombie, but it’s hard not to feel like you’ve done both after watching this. Or any Nic Cage movie TBH.

Speaking of tripping, my most recent watch was Midsommar. It was fine. A hole or two, but worth a watch if you like atmospheric horror and movies designed around cults.

I’d describe it as atmospheric and heavy like The Witch and Hereditary. Similar themes. Not as heavy as those though. I felt like I was getting waterboarded with those two, which when I’m watching horror movies is exactly what I’m looking for.

I like heavy, atmospheric stuff that makes me feel like I need to pause and make sure my family hasn’t died halfway through the movie.

The way you described Hereditary and the Witch was so perfect. Couldn’t agree more, lol.
