Gonna try and write a little on everything I can think of before I head to bed tonight. How about you? Here goes!
Football - first one I followed as a little girl starting in 1992 (ok, technically the first sport I watched was either figure skating or golf in 1991). Still follow it today, though not as closely as basketball. Definitely my solid #2 in team sports, though.
Basketball - obviously we're all here bc of hoops. I've been a fanatic since 1993. I will watch ANY hoops -- the local college teams, the WNBA, the TBT, you name it. I also played when I was younger. Clear #1, always will be.
Baseball - tried a few times to get into it when younger, but it never clicked. I still only have a partial understanding of the game; since it's so different from basketball and football (innings instead of timed quarters, movement along a diamond instead of across a field or court etc), I also never had a template to compare it to. Tried getting into it first before the strike in 1994 with some video games, and then again in 2000-2001 because I thought Shawn Green was hot, but never could follow it to any degree like I did hoops or football. The steroid crap didn't help.
Hockey - just slightly above baseball for me, but still almost never watch. Tiny puck is hard to keep track of.
Golf - I'll watch the majors if I have opportunity. My parents were HUGE into it, so I followed it some over the years.
Tennis - same as golf; I'll watch the majors. More exciting. I've always been impressed by the cardiovascular endurance of the athletes. The sport looks exhausting, with the speed of basketball but no teammates to help pick up slack (except in doubles).
MMA/UFC - was my 2nd for quite awhile after basketball, beating out even football for a number of years, but I got sick of it being dominated by unlikable asses like McGregor and Jones. Haven't watched since GSP's last title fight in 2017. I started watching in 1995 back when it was super controversial, so they lost a longtime fan.
Figure Skating - I was a young girl when the Tonya Harding thing happened, lol. Great athleticism and aesthetics, but not enough non-tabloid, more natural violence, right?
Soccer -- probably just above hockey. Might watch it for a few minutes if nothing else is on.
Track and Field -- favorite in the summer Olympics. Will also watch sometimes even if it's not an Olympic specific event.
Curling -- I never know what's going on. Very fascinating and weird sport to try and hopelessly figure out!
