While I know I must first consider the source, still give this a chance.

Grizzlies are looking to sell ($3M tops) their first round (No. 19) pick. Finding a buyer isn't as easy as it was a few years ago.

If Gilbert looks into this and finds out this is indeed true, why not just buy a 1st round pick and avoid having to trade Drew or Sasha to get it? Decent talent would still be available by 19.

Im not sure how selling a pick works exactly, but i'm assuming that just means cap space? So that would take a 3mill cap hit plus whatever the rookie contract is for the number 19 pick, I'm guessing around a 4mill cap hit total, which would compromise our ability to sign FAs

I'm not exactly sure what the deal would be with buying a pick. It reminds me of when New Jersey sold their pick to Portland. Maybe I don't know the whole situation but it seemed as if Portland just forked over the cash and that was that.

If there is no cap hit, I'm guessing Gilbert wouldn't mind forking over another 3 million, I mean, when you've spent $375 million already, another 3 million isn't really going to change anything haha

Hal Lebovitz on Sunday said that the Cavaliers have a deal worked out for a first round pick. They are just waiting until draft day to finalize it to make sure that one of the PGs they are targeting is there.

Also in that article was this:

KIKI Vandeweghe is emerging as the leading candidate to preside as president of the Cavaliers next season and beyond, numerous sources stipulate. While it's certainly understandable why Dan Gilbert's cherry ownership group would want a recognizable name accredited for quickly rebuilding the lottery decaying Nuggets into a repeat playoff team, it's bewildering why E. Stanley Kroenke granted his GM permission to interview for the job.

AND...

The Cavs plan to pursue Antonio Daniels (after denouncing Jeff McInnis) to the mid-level max, roughly $40M over six years . . .

Buying a draft pick does not make sense. Why would the Cavaliers want to add another guaranteed contract to the roster? They need to make room for new players not just add them.

Of course, this all comes from a Peter Vescey NY Post article, so its probably 90% wrong

I'd rather trade a player for a draft pick than pay 4+million for one and hurting our cap flexibility for the offseason. Its just not worth it imo.

Personally Antonio Daniels for 40 million over 6 years is a bit steep. Particulary for a guy who has never been consistent as a starter, and only the last season or so become a valuable team member. 6 years is alot.

I wouldn't give that much to Daniels and I really can't see the Cavs doing it either. It might just be better to not go after any of the top FA PG's this offseason. It's a weak group and the Cavs would just have to overpay and get stuck with a bad long term contract.

The money the Cavs would have to give up to acquire a #1 wouldn't affect the cap at all. The draft pick's rookie contract would add to the cap though.

Overpaying Daniels makes no sense to me. Maybe signing a player like Janero Pargo or Tyronn Lue to a minimal deal for the short term will be enough for the next season or so. It is near impossible to fill all our cracks with the right player in one summer.

These rumors are getting ridiculous. I like AD but nearly 8 million a year for 6 years is just plain stupid! Hell I think 10 mill a year for 4 years is a reasonable deal for Z let alone an aging inconsistent pG. 6 million for 4 years would be as high as I would go for AD and that's only on a day I'm feeling very generous

I hope we get our GM and coach soon so some of these more ludicrous rumors just stop

Daniels is the wrong answer anyway. (.253 3P %). We already have a point guard who can't hit the three. The Post is just throwing stuff in there to fill space. New York is rooting for Cleveland to screw up on a contract so Lebron will walk at the end of his contract.

The one news item that has any relevence is the CBA negotiations. When that is in place along with a GM we will begin to see the team take shape. I don't know that Clevelnad can fill its needs in the draft. The whole point of cap space is to buy free agents.

By the way, these rumors are from the NYPost. Same place that says Z is leaving Cleveland for NY, LeBron is leaving Cleveland for NY, and the Cavs are leaving Cleveland for Las Vegas.

Kiki is going nowhere.

And if you think about it, paying Antonio Daniels 40 mil over 6 years would be something New York would do. Look at their contract situation. Sorry, but I don't see why we need to have 2 aging PG's with huge contracts that will have problems with starting jobs. AD is good, but not worth a 6 year contract. Somewhere around the MLE (3-4 year deal for 15-20mil) would be what we should look for should we want him. But I'd rather sneak into the draft and get a PG or throw that same deal at someone like Dan Dickau, Chris Duhon.

Buy that pick Gilbert. Unless we can get one for Jiri. Sasha would be better used as our backup or trade bait, not for a pick though.
