Iman Shumpert

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I actually like Amundson on the deep bench. You'll never have to worry about him being problem on the bench or playing hard when he does get put into the games. Using the TPE on a trade like this seems like the perfect use for it.

It'd just have to be two separate trades since you can't combine the exception.

how about Dalembert and Shump for Dion and Amundson? then you could still use the TPE on a veteran player some rebuilding team (/team with a high payroll) wants to get rid of. you might even be able to squeeze out a pick (see the Memphis trade). talking about revamping the bench overnight...

That actually make some sense, though I highly doubt the Knicks would be so motivated that they would also give up a pick. In fact, any team other than New York it makes sense, but I tend to doubt that they will be so tax conscious. Plus, on the Dalembert piece, it's not like he is taking minutes from a young big that they might want to play.

Shumpert is the Knicks' perennial "asset," their one young player who might actually have some value. He started off strong this season, but he since has turned into a volume shooting, low efficiency player with shooting percentages reverting to his historic norms. I don't think any team that trades for him can think he is going to be a viable option on offense.

If the Cavs were confident he would return to being a low usage player who moves the ball on offense and focuses on defense and rebounding, then sure.

But Cavs ask for Shumpert, the Knicks will say, how about JR Smith?

yeah knicks will probably say no to it as is.

Also lou amundson shouldn't be an obstacle in any dion trades

knicks wont take dion w phil there

Dion doesn't exactly strike me as a guy who would excel in the Triangle.

Speaking of triangles, I guess you could always try a 3 way trade.

Either that or structure the deal in such a way so that the Cavs also take back JR Smith.

Something like Dion plus filler for Smith.

Then a second trade of the TPE for Shump plus, say, Prigioni or Aldrich.

Burns the TPE (and Dion) and doesn't get you a big (unless Aldrich is included), but does get you two potentially useful pieces (plus Smith, who I don't qualify as useful at this point).

Might have to find a third team to take on Dion though and send something else to New York. Gets Smith off the Knicks' cap for next year, and I doubt they are able to find any other team willing to do so.

Even in a game where Shumpert was scoreless, as he was against the Cavs tonight, at least he only missed 4 shots (in 25 minutes) and had 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and only one turnover. In other words, he didn't hurt the team and did help in some ways.

(Hate to cite only box score stats without any context, but I must admit I watched less than half of the game, and since it was TNT and not League Pass, I probably won't see the parts I missed.)

Anyway, if Hardaway shoots like that a few more games, it'll make trading Shump all the easier. Hard to imagine the Knicks won't make some moves. I knew last year's team would be bad, but I didn't think this year's team would be this bad.

Shumpert
Even considered trading for an overrated Knicks player

lmao

i honestly think shumpert could set us up for years to come

if we could turn the tpe and a pick into shump, thats our young, solid defender, 3&D starting 2 guard for the next however many years...our danny green, but even better defender

then in the off season we pick up our rim protector w haywood contract and its dynasty

Kyrie
Shump
bron
love
TT

delly
dion
miller/jones
marion
andy

even pickup another big a trade deadline

Knicks aren't giving up Shumpert just for a pick or two, he is valuable to a few contenders.

tonight was a perfect example of us needing another wing defender, preferably young

I'm not really convinced there is much of a market out there for Shumpert -- as others have said, the New York media has always inflated his trade value. What teams would want him? After all, he's a SG who can't shoot. He does do some things reasonably well. His problem this year is that he is shooting too much (much more than previous years). However, recent reports that Carmelo and Tim Hardaway don't exactly like one another may mean it's less likely the Knicks will move Shumpert, if doing so would mean creating more playing time for Hardaway.

phil wants to trade the whole team it seems

He might want a pick more than shumpert

I see a guy who could be our starting 2 going forward. Tall, athletic, great defense and passable shot. You can't just 100% leave him alone in the corner like brewer

Maybe I'm misremembering it, but I thought I read that Shumpert was unhappy at some point because he wasn't getting enough touches. I really don't want to import more of that attitude.

I don't know about Shumpert. He seems like a really low basketball IQ type. Personally I'd rather go after someone like Wes Johnson. He's not hyped like Shumpert but offers about the same skillset at a cheaper price (and would cost less assets to acquire). Living out in socal I see alot of the Lakers and Johnson is the one guy I would take off their roster..he's been around the league for awhile now and will accept his role without complaining. Another negative on Shumpert is that he will be a RFA next summer and looking to get paid...will also be looking to get his shots leading up to the summer.
