Indians acquire OF Jordan Luplow in 5 player trade

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Jordan Luplow was the Pirates top minor league player in 2017. Is he any good?

Pretty good in the minors, hasn't proved anything in the majors yet. Ceiling is probably a reliable 4th OF.

Don't know anything about and have never heard of Moroff, but by looking at the numbers, he's a stiff.

This is an...uhhh...interesting move.

Moroff basically replaces Gonzalez as the guy who never plays. Indians add some RH OF depth, though Luplow has not figured out big league pitching at all.

Liked Tahnaj Thomas a lot, but he's way way off and is basically all arm.

Reason to believe the Tribe has something else in the works. Not that Gonzo was great but he had a purpose.

Two teams trading from a place of good depth to add to a place of weak depth.

Pretty inconsequential trade for both teams, although a Naquin/Luplow platoon would man RF if the season started tomorrow. It appears as though Moroff will be on the 25 man roster as the utility infielder.

I'm sick of our offense relying on 2 guys. We need a table setter to push Lindor down. They need to rewind back to 2016 and emulate that a little. Rajai/Santana was very decent leading off. Nobody currently in our system has my trust in leading off. Greg Allen might be the best option.

If Brantley is indeed gone, our offense will be taking a major hit.

The platoon system is employed by many teams including the WS champs in Boston. In fact, the World Series MVP was a platoon outfielder in Steve Pearce. Having said that, Naquin and Luplow at this point are a poor man's Chisenhall/Guyer and nothing to get excited about. Hopefully, both of them are in Columbus to begin the season, but expect any outfield additions to come through the trade market and not free agency. If AJ Pollack's market crashes due to his injury history, I could potentially see a scenario where he fell into the Tribe's lap a la Edwin in December of 2016. I wouldn't hold my breath on that occurring though.

This is honestly a low risk trade at the moment, and from what I have seen, Luplow could be a solid OF. One thing at least is the fact he has a really strong arm and seems to be a patient hitter. I haven't watch him swing yet, but his stats say potential for a breakout season is there.

Part of me has a hunch of a Casey Blake type of numbers, .260-.270, with 20 HRs and 30 doubles type of player.
