The Cleveland Indians hope to build on a rare strong performance from their pitching staff as they begin a two-game series with the Kansas City Royals.
The Indians, who look to win consecutive games for just the second time this season, got a great outing from C.C. Sabathia in Sunday's 2-1 win over Minnesota. The left-hander, who was activated from the disabled list on Saturday, worked 5 2-3 strong innings and left with the game tied 1-1.

The Indians have given up five runs or more in six of their previous eight games. However they will be facing a Kansas City squad that has scored two runs or less in five of their last six contests.

Kansas City lost its second straight home game Sunday, 6-1 to the Detroit Tigers.

The Royals lost their first three home games early last week and are 1-5 at Kauffman Stadium, where they have been outscored 39-13.

``We're struggling offensively right now and that's the big difference,'' said Royals manager Tony Pena after Sunday's loss.

Royals first baseman Mike Sweeney is even starting to struggle, going 0-for-4 to snap his 10-game hitting streak.

Cleveland may be without designated hitter Travis Hafner, who was hit by a pitch on his right elbow with the bases loaded in the eighth inning to force in the go-ahead run.

``It's a little swollen, but I'll ice it tonight and see how I feel tomorrow,'' said Hafner, who had surgery to remove bone spurs from the elbow Oct. 6.

``I usually wear my elbow pad against lefties, but for whatever reason I forgot to put it on. The first pitch almost hit me and I was thinking it probably would be a good idea to go back and get it. I just didn't.''

Well, Kansas City is in our Division, and off to a slow start, just 4-8. We face the Royals on the road, but were surprisingly better on the road then home, 3-3. I see us blowing them out in one of the games, and losing by 1 in the other. 1-1 against the Royals, no way were getting swept.

well this should be an easy series. the royals dont have anywhere near the pitching that the white sox or twins have. so the bats will be alive in this series for us. our pitching on the other hand will shut them down.

Looking good for us around half of the game, we winning 2-0 at the top of 4th :).

Victor took a foul ball off his toe. He has stayed in the game, but it makes me very nervous...

4-0 Tribe now. Peralta scores Boone on an RBI triple, then Coco follows with an RBI triple of his own.

The Tribe desperatley needs a sweep in this series just for confidence.

So put something together, the pitching has been amazingly great so far, but the offense just isnt ther eyet.

Tribe wins 5-1. Cliff Lee goes 7 scoreless innings, giving up two hits while being very sick. Betancourt gave up his first hit and run when he pitched in the eighth. Rhodes pitched a scoreless ninth.

RBIs to Blake, Broussard, Peralta, Crisp and Sizemore.
HRs to Blake and Broussard.

The wins while most of the team is very sick, dealing with what sounds like food poisoning.

Martinez took a foul ball off the foot, Bard wasn't available due to food poisoning. The emergency catcher who was told to get ready was Alex Cora... that could have been ugly... lol

It's always nice to dominate an oponent the first game of the series.

Now they need two more...need a sweep here.

I think this is only a 2 game series, but 3 wins would be fine and dandy, too.

Was wondering, is this like on the radio or something? Cuz this is the first time i cant find the game, any help here .

There is no TV coverage, just radio.

5-3 Royals right now, Elarton really struggling.

5-5 now. Crisp RBI and single and a sac fly from Martinez tie the game up.

Sizemore has scored one run and driven in two.
