Indians sign Cesar Hernandez

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Probably not a coincidence that the trigger was pulled on this deal the day after the deadline set by the Tribe for all final offers for Lindor.

I thought that but then I also wondered if they wanted to leak a preemptive signing or two before trading Lindor.

Given what we know about their strong demands and not being an organization to bend on their value requirements, I still see it as more likely that they don’t trade Lindor this offseason.

As for the remaining money, given the choice, I think I prefer Puig to Dickerson

To me this only makes sense if we're keeping Lindor unless the front office thinks we can still contend without him. With Lindor this is a pretty solid top 6-7 players, just need to figure out the corner spots in the outfield. Corey Dickerson would be an improvement in LF and then you let the other 6-7 guys battle it our for RF.

Okay, so now we've turned Kluber on his last year into a starting second baseman, a fireballing reliever, and enough salary to acquire someone else.

Not bad at all.
Kluber has a team option next year

And either way that is still just a bunch of nickels and dimes. To be seen if they reinvest the additional savings. They didn’t last year when it was widely expected (on this board) that they would

This addition made too much sense not to happen for both sides. $6.5 million should end up being great value for him if he stays healthy and returns to his normal walk rate. Go get Dickerson now.

Agree.....lets go get Dickerson!

I agree. I believe that this was step one of their plan if they did not like the "final" offers. It was step one that filled their most important need of this offseason.

Like the value.

Curious if they believe in him enough to put him in the leadoff spot and maximize Lindor’s bat lower into the 2-3 hole.

This is what I’m hoping they do.

Something along the lines of:
1) Hernandez
2) Lindor/Jose
3) Lindor/Jose
4) Santana
5) Reyes

That sounds really nice to me.

Quite the stat
Lindor won't be there for this to happen.

Reminds me of Ricky Gutierrez.
I'll wait for the aneurysms before I state I actually liked Gutierrez prior to the signing.

Prior to what signing? Hernandez’s?

Still got 9 million to spend. I don't mind them waiting for a bargain or two. Enough to sign Corey Dickerson I think.

Good signing for a very good price. People were talking about Kipnis making 8+ M in the market. The Tribe got a better player for less
