Interview with Gilbert

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He owns the team so if he wants his own GM and Coach in there, he has that right. I don't think Silas was the right man for this team .. just look at how fluid our offense is at this point.

We're 2 games away from either playoffs or offseason and we HAVE NO OFFENSE. I want Phil or anyone that can come in here and teach our players how to move off the ball every now and again.

I have to say I disagree with you Lyxo. Getting rid of Silas before he makes the playoffs is not different at all than getting rid of Silas after he makes the playoffs. Clearly Silas making the playoffs had no impact on George Shinn. There is just no logic there at all. Given our current condition with injuries to Z and Goober, if we get in, we aren't likely to see the second round, so there is no pressure to keep Silas from anywhere.

And yeah it is Gilbert's team, in the same sense the Browns were Modell's team. So he can do whatever or get his own front office. In the end all any of us do is kibitz.

All I am saying is that by tanking the team out of the playoffs, he weakens it. Making it less attractive to free agents and burning a second rounder, and frustrating our star player. Maybe the game plan is to reduce the compensation expectations of a J-Mac or a Z? Who knows?

Maybe there is a plan that makes sense somewhere. We will see how the summer unfolds, but given what we have seen so far, I for one do not feel good about it.

I still stand by my argument. Had Silas made the playoffs, we would have achieved the goal we set at the beginning of the season. Gilbert's reputation would have been even worse if he were to decide to fire a "successful" coach. Think about it. If Silas made the playoffs like he said he would, how many fans, people in the organization, and players would scratch their heads? Even more distrust and disorganization. Gilbert's image would be that he's a rash owner that gets what he wants rather than what everyone thinks that's good for the team.

Gilbert forsaw this. He knew he didn't want Silas. He knew this was a good opportunity to rid of him so he can get someone he wants. He took it. Hopefully he's trying to make this team better. I'd hope he is.
