I would be shocked if Gilbert doesn't pony up whatever he needs to pay to match his offer sheet. What examples do you have of him cheaping out in the nearly 20 years he's been the Cavs owner?
I guess I'm not completely sure, but presuming Mitchell and Mobley essentially get max deals... will we be able to match based on salary caps, etc...?

Yes, of course. We have his Bird rights. We can go over the cap to sign him.

I was fully on board with trying to extend him last summer because we already knew he was elite defending the point of attack.

Now, I dot know if it was even possible get him on a long term deal with 10-12 AAV at that time or if Koby tried and couldn’t get Okoro’s people to bite.

This year’s Okoro, however, is now well out of that price range. They can’t afford to lose him.

I guess this is what I'm wondering.... considering the salary cap is expected to be in 2026 - 165million....

And including Mobley and Mitchell extensions...

"It would also put the Cavs in a serious bind financially with Mobley, Garland, Jarrett Allen and Max Strus combining for a possible $132.7 million on their payroll. If Donovan Mitchell elects to stick around for another year and pick up his player option, that number balloons to $169.8 million combined."

So essentially, 5 guys put us over the salary cap. Do we give Okoro 20 million a year too? And the rest of the salaries get you over the Luxury Tax line...

So Okoro sort of costs like what, 40 million? or something? ha.

Not saying Dan is cheap, but seems like a lot for a team that will likely still have needs.

Not that we heard of. I’m assuming there were some numbers thrown around behind closed doors

I heard they offered him something similar to the extension Josh Green got from Mavericks. Although they may have just been some random insiders speculation. I just remember seeing something about how Okoro and Cavs discussed a deal similar to the deal Josh Green got but then both sides decided to wait it out.

Okoro is at least Royce Oniel worthy.. the question is, is that a component we can take to the ring.. I think Some of Mitchells action influence this decision. Mitchell leaves and I don't think we hesitate to keep Okoro, because it moves our window out..

Okoro has come on so much this season. I don't think he's ever going to be a guy who you can give the ball to and say 'go get a bucket' but he's much better at shooting and reading the defense to attack closeouts. Great 6th man material

Is he someone Riley and Spo would want in their rotation?

Also if Mitchell leaves I don’t see our path to a ring. We don’t have another player good enough for the all star game. How are we supposed to win a ring bereft of top end talent?

I don’t believe you can “roster manage” your way to a ring. You need top end talent that you build around. Mitchell is at best marginal top end talent. I wouldn’t make roster decisions based on competing for a ring. I don’t believe we’re that close.

Ive had Okoro stock since his first rookie pre season game, and been buying it up everytime the market dips because many bozos only know "made basket is good" analysis.

I plan to retire on this now.
The people who didn’t like or believe in Okoro are L7 weenies….Imbeciles!

There’s truly only a select few of us on this luxury vessel navigating crystal blue waters with an abundance of libations and cannabis…
