Isaac "3 more years" & D Okoro

What do you think about the new contract?

  • Best move of the offseason

  • Okoro is a quality signing at a decent price

  • Better than over paying for some else's under performing free agent

  • He might be a useful piece in a trade some day

  • It will take some luck to make this worthwhile

  • Waste of money

Disagree, signing him to an Overpriced one would be a mistake. Sign him to the right contract and he’s a tradeable commodity.

Ideally that’s what you’d do, but signing a guy with the intent to trade him later Never really works out. I think the Cavs re-signed LeVert with the intent to trade him, yet he’s still here.

If you know you’re going to trade the guy the first chance you get, just find a deal now and move on. Even if you sell a little short, it’s better than signing a guy and taking the risk he’s not a tradeable asset in 5 months at the deadline. Anything could happen, and most things aren’t very good. Getting hurt, regressing, and even stagnating as a player might make him in-tradeable depending on the contract.

Bobby marks seems to indicate he has inside word about a S&T for Okoro for a wing from another team but wouldnt give details. Interesting to see if this ends up being true

I feel like Saddiq Bey is someone Koby would target. Atlanta didn't give him the QO but should still have his bird rights. A double sign and trade might be something that could work for both sides. We could get Saddiq Bey on a good deal because he is coming off a not so great season and a torn ACL.

Okoro is from the Atlanta area so I would assume he would be open to play for the Hawks. I really don't understand what direction the Hawks are going but Okoro could be a guy that covers for Tray Young and just helps with their overall defense.

I personally would prefer De'Andre Hunter over Saddiq Bey. Bey is just too average, not elite at anything.

Okoro for Hunter would make sense for this team.

Didn’t I read a report that he’s not even going to be ready for the start of the season because of that surgery. If we sign him it should be a non guaranteed contract in case he doesn’t recover properly.

Bey is absolute trash. If Cavs even signed Bey for the minimum I would be devastated. Not only is he terrible at everything on the basketball court. He had a bad attitude in Atlanta last season and he tore his ACL in March and may not even play this year. I have no idea why people think Bey is worth anything.

Because they liked him as a prospect in college. Rather than accept that they were wrong about him, they convince themselves it was just "the wrong environment/coaching staff/situation".

Happens all the time with former lottery picks. I call it "Cam Reddish Syndrome."

There’s truth in what you’re saying but Bey has produced far more in four years than Cam Reddish has.

He is coming off his worst shooting season though (outlier or trend) and the aforementioned ACL injury.

Savior? Obviously not.
Buy low opportunity? I think so

I don't think we are going to get a good player for Okoro in a sign and trade unless we put in assets which we don't have. If the Cavs are going sign and trade Okoro alone and not make any other moves to gain assets, I think we are looking at Saddiq Bey level players especially if we want a wing.

I've seen people say that he will be a minimum type guy but I think he is for a big market team so the Cavs won't have a chance at him. I don't think he is a MLE guy but I do think we can structure a contract to beat out other teams and take a chance on him.

I don't think Okoro really holds that much value in the league especially if he wants above the MLE.

Exact, I'm not saying Saddiq Bey is our answer at SF. He is a player you buy low on and hope he progresses. Truly I think Okoro is the same type of player and both probably have similar ceilings. (I am also low on Okoro). I think Saddiq Bey is a better fit for this team if he does make strides than Okoro will be even if he makes similar strides.

I would rather let Okoro walk for nothing then give Bey a dime. Bey isn't good.

Alot of people wanted nothing to do with Lauri when I brought him up for the MLE before we traded for him. If Koby doesn't take any chances, this roster is never going to get better.

I don't think we are going to get a good wing unless we trade Garland and/or Allen. If Koby wants to keep the core 4 together and just trade Okoro, I'm not sure what other options are actually out there.

Lauri is different then Bey. Lauri was a 6-11 player who could shoot. Bey is a dime-a-dozen wing sized player who is a terrible defender, meh offensive player and likely won't play the majority of the season if at all. Two completely different situations.

It is different situation but Bey is going to be had for cheap and for a player that I'm not even sure we want or many teams in the league want. It's a low cost swing for a player that currently has low value.

We gave up Nance who we were apparently offer 2 first round picks for earlier for Lauri. Okoro doesn't have anywhere close to that value.

To be clear, I'm thinking we pay him like Dean Wade to Niang money.

I don't think Bey is even worth the minimum. He isn't a buy low candidate like Lauri was. He's just a pile of trash. He's that bad of a player and he's hurt. He doesn't solve any issues this season. This trade doesn't help the team at all. Just letting Okoro walk is better then giving Bey any sort of deal.
