I cringe every time he has the ball.

He must have one of the worst
0-3 ft range shooting % in the league
Shots are either wild throws or swatted
away by the defender.

The entire fanbase cringes when he touches the ball. Now that the team is competitive again fans are tuning back in. It's too much pressure to give this kid many minutes on a team that is actually trying to win. There's a reason good teams will ease their young players into their rotations and not just throw them out to sink or swim which the Cavs have done the past 3-4 seasons. You could deal with Okoro's growing pains if the team was still terrible and in player development mode but that phase is over. At this point they are only ruining any confidence he has left by throwing him out there for extended minutes.

We need to cut him the NBA champs took advantage of his raw defense. I don't understand why he can't finish when guys are smashing him in the head. /s

Thabo Sefolosha
The Thunder had Sefolosha and then Andre Robertson, both truly elite defenders (considerably better than Okoro). When playoff time came around, even with offensive giants like KD, Harden, & Westbrook, it bit them because its almost impossible to beat elite teams, especially in a series, with a perimeter player who doesn't need guarded.

I still have hope for him but what disturbed me last night was with the shot clock winding down he doesn't even
trust himself enough to make anything happen,,,he's tossing the ball to other players with 4 or 5 seconds on the shot
clock and those players are forced to take difficult off balance shots.
I think its really mental at this point, he did play well at the end of last year. Biggest disappointment for me as a cavs
fan this year is this guy.

Yeah I don't get it. He was actually pretty clutch last year. He'd hit 3's in the fourth or get to the basket

  • 32pt/6a against the Suns in May
  • 2020/2021 All-Rookie Second Team
  • Second season
  • 20 years old
  • “I was talking to UD at the end of the game and we agreed the kid is going to be really good,” Butler said. “He plays within the game. He takes all of the right shots. He gets stops and rebounds. He is always passing the ball to the open guy. I really like his game. Obviously, he is matched up against me and he plays incredibly hard. He is going to be in this league for a long time and he is going to make a lot of money in this league, too. … His potential is out of this world. Hopefully, he is 10 times better than I am. If he keeps working, the sky is the limit.” - Jimmy Butler
Clearly, he's a bust.

Yeah the problem is that he has gotten worse in all facets of the game from Season 1 to Season 2.

That’s the biggest alarm bell. The goal of a young player is to improve your game.

I’m not sure what Okoro is doing in these legendary gym sessions because it sure looks like he’s just standing in the corner asking dudes how much they lift.

Spent too much time working on his quads, not enough working on his game.

Yep.

Now we have Lu Dort, who actually has considerably improved his offense in the last two seasons. He easily averages double figures in scoring, is bold in driving to the basket and taking 3s, and shoots 3s at a clip above 30% this season and last. He's still not a guy who really should be the #2 or #3 option on offense, ideally, but he's still considerably more developed than Okoro in these areas, as well as defensively -- and dude wasn't even drafted.

Dort is a steal. Getting what amounts to a "freebie" makes such a difference in a rebuild. He's the quality of a first round pick, and he cost you nothing.

Guys I don't want to knock what Okoro did last year but posting some stats from one single game as proof that a guy isn't a bust just isn't it.

Every dude who plays in the NBA is capable of having a huge night.

Anyone remember the guy who went off against us in Utah all those years ago? I don't even remember his name. He was on a 10 day deal, scored a ton of points, hit the game winner.

That was a dude who became a journeyman from roster to roster on vet minimum deals.

Ya gotta step back from just looking at his very best moments (or his very worst) and look at the overall picture. And it's not very pretty atm.

Sundiata Gaines. He was fire in 2k13

I'd managed to purge my memory of Gaines.

Thanks for that.

Maybe hes doing the wrong drills in practice. Dude would probably be a very good Linebacker.
