I'd rather Okoro eat up minutes as a second year player for the sake of hopeful development than worry about using those minutes solely to win games.

I understand that the record has some folks antsy, but I'm not about putting the cart before the horse in terms of this team's overall trajectory. Okoro is much more important to that than stretching Cedi's role or letting Windler, whose skills are what they are, hit a few more shots.
Cedi probably would have gotten more minutes anyway if it wasn't his first game back from injury.
Okoro was fine. As a 5th starter he's going to normally get 8-12 points, yesterday he was 2 off that.
He was torching Okoro in the first quarter. Garland probably did the best job slowing him down.
Markkanan was on Mitchell to start, and they wouldn't bother screening, letting Donovan go one on one. Nearly every time Okoro drew Mitchell the Jazz looked to screen to get Isaac off of him or to force the double to get the open 3.
Having Okoro out there instead of Cedi at the end of the game after how Cedi played (and really after how he's played all season) is such an indictment on JBB's blind favoritism for Okoro and perhaps the organization's obsession with developing Okoro and playing him more minutes than he deserves that's consistently hurting this team's chances of winning games.
Rubio was out there at the end of the game w/Garland (final 5 minutes). Cedi and Okoro were part of the group that brought the game back in the 4th by tightening up the defense and getting opportunistic buckets and consistently helping the Cavs be in position to close out a victory vs a very good NBA team.

I guess.

But we are almost 30% of the way through this season.

What is Okoro better at this year?

Would it simply be his rebounding is a bit better?

His scoring is down, his shooting is awful......defense has been fine but it just isn't impactful enough to ignore all the offensive stuff.

I feel like you could plug a league average SG in to our offense and we'd look a hell of a lot better, even if that player was a far worse defender.

All of his advanced stats are up. BPM, VORP, and Win shares specifically. I know, the bar was low in that area, but still. Seeing that, despite his woeful offensive struggles, is encouraging.

Regardless, my point is that young players get better by playing. The best chance at Okoro developing into a useful NBA player comes from him playing in his future envisioned role. Furthermore, on this team, Okoro's best chance at development comes from playing with other offensive threats. For those reasons, if he's going to play (which I feel he needs to play), he should play with the starters.

I'm all for pursuing upgrades that make sense, but I don't think starting Cedi or Windler really does.

Okoro is a perfect fit in terms of " potential skill set" next to Garland. He is a guy if he can improve his handle for his slashing and shoot well enough from the corner, can get some tough buckets when things are stagnating. But its such a long road to Medina. A real prayer.

For what it’s worth, VORP is a cumulative stat. It makes sense that he’d be less negative than last year since he’s played significantly less.

Win shares is also related to team performance. His are only up because the team’s wins are up.

Okoro shouldn't be playing anymore and should be getting reps in the G League. That's my opinion. This team isn't bottom of the barrel anymore. We can't afford to handicap our offense all season long as if our prime motive for this year is developing the #5 pick we likely blew. More than giving ourselves the best chance of making the playoffs. More than developing our other much more talented young players whose games are hurt by the fact that they have to play 4v5 on offense every night. It's just such a joke at this point.

I don't even know why I bother even complaining anymore though because nothing's going to change. We're just gonna keep having to exert so much fucking energy on defense every night just to try to claw out wins because we sacrifice so many points on the offensive end with this guy out there.

Okoro's selection may be a long time thorn in Koby's(and the Cavs) side.

Just imagine any of the following players contributing at SG/SF in his place:
Devin Vassell
Tyrese Haliburton
Deni Avidja
Saddiq Bey
Immannual Quickley
Desmond Bane

None are likely to become stars but all would be potential positive contributors in a 8-9 man rotation, something I have lost all hope that Okoro will ever do.
I'm embarrassed at several Okoro posts I made during the draft process and last year.

Honestly might be one the worst players in the league starting. It's also funny how people hype his defense but he looks below average and gets lost a lot. Opposing players just shoot over his average wingspan, how was he even drafted in the first round? Doesn't even look like a 2nd round talent.

Kid disgraced himself tonight. Unlike Garland and Cedi who had miserable nights, this is back to back offensive duds.

The thought of adding Haliburton to this squad makes me want to cry. Man that would be phenomenal.

Yeah yeah sample size and all that...but still...

This stat alone is enough for me to see more Lamar Stevens.

I don't think Lamar has much of a future in this league but...I don't think Okoro does either.

The idea though that you can't rely on your SG to hit even 30% on WIDE OPEN CORNER 3s just doesn't work in the NBA.

Hopefully a poster here possesses a better grasp of NBA history and point me to a guard who was able to rectify a general inability to dribble and shoot during their NBA career.

I have no reason to think Okoro is not a good kid but I have to call it like I see it. He totally lacks the skills to be a good offensive player. Which is sad because he sees the floor well and is so explosive. The hand eye coordination isn’t there and he knows it. No confidence.
