Isaiah Mobley draft safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
NBADraftnet doesn't have him in their top 100, Tankathon doesn't have him rated in their top 74 and ESPN has Mobley slotted in at #89.. So safe to say, if the Cavs want him with the Heat pick he's likely there and they may even be able to squeeze him onto a two-way contract..

With the Cavs roster crunch next year, if Mobley is available with the Heat pick, we could see them opt for a draft-and-stash player and guarantee Mobley a two-way spot after being undrafted... That would preserve the Cavs a roster spot and still accomplish their mission..

He certainly does boost an interesting statline for a big, showing a lot of the same versatility that his brother has... Even though he is a namesake, I don't think it's a waste of a late 2nd or two-way deal..

Has something happened recently that his stock just plummeted? He was mocking as a high 2nd/late first about a month ago. I think Sam Vecine still has him top 45. Draft twitter is higher on him than most of the conventional mocks ... and I tend to trust draft twitter on the later picks

Not many mocks had Isaiah anythign beyond late 2nd. You might have found one mock that had him higher, but most dont.

It's only February, the tournaments can change a lot. That said, you can be sure it's better to be an eighteen year old who has all the traits of an NBA star than a 22 year old who has proven to be a future bench role player.

He has to show dominant traits to overcome being a 22 year old still playing college ball. San Antonio finally had a lottery pick last year, and they went for an 18 year old nobody heard of before in Primo.

That's the NBA draft these days, like it or not... And it points toward Isaiah Mobley falling comfortably to the Cavaliers.

To be clear, I have no problem with Isaiah joining the franchise to keep Evan happy, and it's Isaiah's best chance to thrive.

So it sounds like we should be able to get him to Cleveland if he wishes to play with his brother...

I've been on the Isaiah Mobley bandwagon as much as anyone, but one thing that crossed my mind and *may* sway that thought is that having him on the roster might mean that he needs to be played. Would he be happy not playing? Would Evan? Would their dad? If his development isn't prioritized enough, does that sound anyone? I'm not saying it will be a problem, but it may not be as cut and dry as we hope. If he was a coach or staff? Definitely. As a player, it may be a blessing in disguise for him to go before the Cavaliers pick and just say, "Darn! We loved Isaiah and wanted him in the program! We wish him the best."

I would not feel confident waiting for 50+ picks to pass on a guy leading USC to a top 20 ranking, averaging 15/9/3 with a brother that went the year before and looks to be a HOF'er (at least according to most of the board). A rival GM will see this and take a flyer....and if he's there at the top of the 2nd....are you seriously considering on passing on these accomplishments and pedigree ?

I'm doubling down on my 1st round pick prediction from earlier in the thread....

Though sometimes they rate a guy with more potential than a good floor to be honest. We have a chance to bring in the guy so hopefully they really consider it...

Yeah I think so too. I am guessing early 2nd not late, but I think he has done enough.

I will take it a step further, not only would I draft Isaiah with a late 2nd to keep Evan happy, I would hire their dad as an assistant and pay him more than USC is paying him, lol

I was thinking about the Mobley situation a lot during the trade deadline. Couldn't help but compare this situation to Seth Curry.

Seth wasn't highly thought of as a pro prospect, more of a college shooting specialist. He did have a father and brother who came from NBA stock. Seth was fine honing his game in the G League until he earned playing time with Sacramento. He started with the Warriors but spent two years developing his game aside from being a dead eye shooting.

I wonder if Isaiah will be able to swallow his pride the same way Seth Curry worked his way up.

Mobley did not look great in either the Pac10 tourney or USC’s first round loss in the NCAA tournament. Not terrible, but not great. If he enters the draft he definitely won’t be first round, and may not get drafted at all.

Just make sure he ends up in Cleveland.
