The NFL has never made a secret of its desire to get its mitts on fans in other countries. (Neither has any sports league for that matter.) And according to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, the league hopes to take the next step in doing that by adding a third London game and a franchise in England.
Goodell, speaking at a New York University conference on Tuesday, confirmed an October 2012 report from CBS Sports Jason La Canfora that expansion into London's market share is a key goal for the league.
Per Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post, the league is looking at adding a third game in London "very soon." Additionally, the NFL believes the game is getting a good reception in London and is interested in putting a a franchise overseas.
And who could that franchise be? Well, it sure does sound like it might be the very team La Canfora mentioned back in October: Jacksonville, who Goodell said could play two games per year in the future.

Excited as fuck.

They won't be the Jags.. The'll be something else (Sillynannies?). I wonder what the fan reception really is on the web. No doubt, though, that is a huge step for the NFL. Eight games a year doesn't sound too bad.

I was thinking about this, would the London play all night games in order to coincide with the time change?

8pm London time = 1pm EST

London's only 5 hours ahead of the East Coast. Normal 1pm kickoffs would translate to 6-9pm games for them.

Well, as one of the biggest pro-London NFL advocates here, I have my finger on the pulse of Londoners and other Englishmen. Been asking around. Some say they are excited, others say they would rather have an NBA team.

Stupid. I hate the expansion to Europe thing in the NFL and NBA. It doesn't excite me at all.

EDIT: Took out some harsh things I said about Europe. Forgot a bunch of board members are from there :chuckles:

London is a beautiful city. NFL players would be lucky to call London their home.

Have you been there for a while? It's very nice to visit, but after living there for over a week I missed America badly. It's just a different culture and society over there. And NFL guys live a VERY American lifestyle.

I watched the Olympics. I am an expert on London. I have already read some Wikipedia articles.

It's times like these when I can't tell if you're trolling. :chuckles:

Anyway, having a team in London isn't something so outrageous that I'm going to keep arguing it. 2020 is a long time from now, we'll see what happens.

I can only imagine how bad it will be for the west coast teams that need to travel there. Hell, the Niners spend half the week at YSU when they are coming east, and this would be worse than that for even the east coast teams.

So if they were to get a Sunday, Monday or Thursday night game. Their start time would be 2:00 AM London time? That doesn't sound practical....

If it's the Jags, I don't think they will ever have to worry about that.
