James Wiseman Scouting: Discuss

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I've found Fedor to be full of shit in all aspects of his work
really? for memory last season he was saying Garland and also an interest in Porter

Windhorst has both the best Intel on what goes on behind the scenes, and strong opinions that can get in the way of simply reporting straight facts. He has earned that right. He didn't get where he is now because he has a body like Erin Andrews.

I do believe the info he collected behind why Drummond became a Cavalier checks out.

Do you think his information is wrong or he just says what the organization wants him to? I find he is very credulous and does the latter.

He is the most bloviating beat writer. I dunno how Fedor obtained this air of authority he tries to surround himself with. His podcast unlistenable as he opines and takes this philosophical tone explaining everything to his co-host like he is an idiot.

Seems like a lot of hot air.

I really hope teams will be able to take these prospects through thorough workouts.

I'm a fan of taking a chance with a talent like Wiseman. We really need some big time young talent with length.

But we need to determine if he has potential for a diverse offensive game. Can he step out and shoot it? How are his handles? Is he a decent passing big?

You can't end up taking a Nerlens Noel or even Clint Capela type of limited big man in the top 5. I think he can be much more than that, but a workout could help.

Those are all valid concerns. I think Wiseman has potential to be much more than Capela on offense. For starters, his shooting mechanics are solid. I think he could develop a mid range game.

What I really like about Wiseman is his body type & fluidity. He has the perfect body for a modern big man, is deceptively athletic & runs the floor like a deer.

He has a soft touch & knows how to finish at the rim. He's smart, @ 19 yrs old, the sky is the limit for him. He can become a force on the low block under the right tutelage.

He's a generational talent at the weakest position in the league. The Cavs should pounce on the opportunity if it presents itself & draft him. He'd abuse small ball teams with his length alone. If he can develop some low post moves, watch out - opposing teams won't stand a chance.

This situation with Wiseman & Okongwu reminds me of Dwight / Emeka in '04. Okongwu is a nice consolation prize imo, but Wiseman has so much more star potential.

We're set at the guard positions. KPJ is just better than Edwards & isn't undersized. LaMelo is a guard, Sexton has higher upside imo. Toppin is a tweener, does his game translate to the next level?

Lastly, I have to say it. Wiseman would be a "wise" choice. :chuckle:

Fedor is a PR machine for the cavs, never says a bad word about them. But I thought it he did that in exchange for info that’s why I think he’s the most reliable

Fedor's info is like a 3 day old deli platter that's never been refrigerated. I mean sure, it's technically info, but it's days old, rotten, and starting to smell.

You lost me here. :chuckle:

I think Wiseman's one big concern is we don't have footage of him guarding on the perimeter like we do Okongwu. Okongwu looks like he has position switching potential and from all the AAU footage I see of Wiseman, he is very clunky in that role.

Certainly Wiseman has matured physically and maybe his lateral movement will catch up but Okongwu looks like a plug and play defender in the P&R......and you cannot understate the value that specific skill holds in the modern NBA for bigs.

Wiseman's physical talent is exciting.......but lateral movement is the death of bigs in the NBA, especially non passing ones. If teams can play him off the floor on the perimeter, it doesn't really matter what rim protection value he provides.

C'mon Keys, boobs don't help you get taken seriously in sports reporting...regardless of gender.

The last thing I'm looking for in a big is perimeter defense. Wiseman is better in every other area of the game & has far more upside than Okongwu.

Deep dive on the joke I didn't expect anyone to take seriously?

Don't mind if I do.

Ramona Shelburne - An outlier ESPN correspondent who ate her way off camera, managed to stay relevant by blindly supporting and speading every sports rumor that hurts small markets and helps the Lakers and Clippers.

So is there a correlation between ESPN body shape and the platform they are provided? Lemmie know.

Haha, was just following up with another joke, not intending to prompt a deep dive. This obviously isn't the right place for the discussion in any case. Good on ESPN for giving a platform to all kinds of people regardless of gender, appearance, or competence!

What NBA bigs do you think provide plus value as players who can't at least tread water in perimeter action?

There are a few answers....but they are players who provide value in completely different ways than someone like Wiseman.

I don't dislike Wiseman in general.....I think he's a good archetype to take a homerun swing at.......I just don't view him as being more valuable in the modern game than someone like Okungwu.

Who will be the better player? It's a guess at this point.......but I just tend to value Okungwu's mixture of skills + his floor. More times than not, I just think someone like Okungwu is the better player.......and in a draft with more uncertainty at the top, I think guys like Okungwu and Haliburton should be given more credit for the floors they provide. Not everyone agrees with that, which is fine....I just have yet to see a compelling argument as to why you take Wiseman over Okungwu........there's plenty of theoretical reasons......but with Wiseman not playing against college competition, it is a lot of best case scenario(ing).
