James Wiseman Scouting: Discuss

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
35 games isnt even a half season, i know its a weird year, but he only played in about half the games. Plus Towns took 8 3-pointers a game, bigs werent asked to do that in the 70's and 80's. different game, but 3-pointers has warped fair comparisons. And the efficiency numbers dont take into account Hakeem at 4.2 vs Towns 2.7 offensive rebounds.

I am a fan of allot of the modern stats, but hard to compare sometimes. Hakeem could have easily developed a 3 point shot if asked too, but that wasnt the game, i know Laimbeer, but he was such an exception.
I guess I’m choosing to look at what guys actually have in their arsenal rather that what they “could have”.

That’s what makes today’s players so special. We’re seeing guys do things that have never been done before at the highest skill levels ever.

I just think you have to take in context what the players trained for and how they were developed when talking best of all time type stuff.

Jordan couldn't shoot a 3 pointer very well, does that diminish his offensive skills vs today's players?

Jesse Owens set a world record at the Olympics running the 100 meters at 10.3, high school kids can run faster than that now, is he not a GOAT athlete still?

I think there’s a difference between talking about someone being the GOAT and talking about something measurable.

Nobody would ever claim that Jesse Owens is the fastest runner of all time, right?

That’s where I am with the conversation about offensive skills. I’m not diminishing their greatness, but yeah, today’s guys are more skilled.

If you're looking at offensive skills for big men, you have to consider how the current game has led to a much more open floor than we saw 30 years ago. Big men back in that day faced much tighter interior defenses, so it required a lot more skill to get your shots off.

Trust me, I’m not ignoring the changes in defensive schemes over the years.

I'm not talking about you - I'm talking about the numbers. KAT is a better outside shooter. But stats aren't going to be able to resolve a comparison of his post skills/interior passing versus guys playing 30 years ago.

I’m aware. My opinion isn’t based on numbers, it’s just supported by them.

Dirk and Duncan were as big or bigger than KAT.

I refuse to believe any stats that show KAT is more skilled then Dirk at anything to do with scoring the basketball.

KAT is good, there's no denying that. The Cavs should focus on drafting our next great big & developing him. Wiseman is solid, but Azubuike is the one that has me intrigued.

So now, after almost every post saying the Cavaliers need to get Wiseman, you're saying a guy that may not get drafted is the better choice?

Yeah, that's pretty funny.
It seemed as he was at the very least a close relative to Wiseman just judging by how much he loved him. Now, he is just solid? that's odd.

I guess watching youtube clips can have a really strong effect on your judgment, depending which player you saw last.

And to be clear, Wiseman is extremely talented! He was the top recruit in the class for a reason. It just stinks that we haven't really seen him play organized basketball in so long.

There's a big jump in competition and a lot of questions you'd like to have answered between a guy's senior year of HS and the time you draft him.

I'd probably lean his way at #1, but there are plenty of reasons to be wary when there's so little recent tape on a guy.

The embarrassing/concerning thing is I've had Wiseman as the best choice for the Cavaliers for a year, but all this hyperbole about him has had me questioning my eyes and opinion. And now, supposedly, Azuibuke is just as good??? I feel like I'm in the matrix and don't know what's real anymore.
